So I just got done IOE, and am wondering how much you commuters out there pay for parking. Specifically I am wondering about PHL. My regional reimburses for parking at my base only. I don't know anything about employee parking, and couldn't find any threads on it, so any advice appreciated.

Also wondering what the best way is to find what flights go into cities and if there's a way to check how full a trip is to gauge if it will work for commuting.

Thanks

If I remember right, the non airport employee rate for the PHL lot is like $650/yr and you must pay it all upfront. It is a great employee lot, as in car get stolen, burned, broken into, etc...

As far as checking commuter flights, go onto orbitz or travelocity and look at open seats, or most airlines have a non-rev number that you can call and list and check loads... hope this helps

You should try talking to the Station Manager for your airline at PHL. Find out where the gate agents etc.. park and if they have a good deal you might be able to get in on it.

Check out www.passrider.com for flights from your city.

I park free at ORD for CAL, CAL shuttle bus takes you right the gate. Best deal out there.

If you really need to save money and can't get a parking pass at PHL, try parking at The Lagoon. It's a hotel/night club where quite a few US Airways commuting pilots/FAs spend the night before and after their trips. They have a shuttle to the airport every 20 minutes if I remember right. Just park out front, wear your uniform, walk into the lobby and blend in with the crews that actually stayed there and then tip well, so the driver never asks questions. I parked there 3 days a week for 5 months and no one ever noticed. At $8/day for economy parking at PHL, that's some serious savings. You can get directions at http://www.thelagoon.net/directions.asp

You might be able to find someone who is based there but commutes and doesn't need his employee parking pass. Offer to buy him some beer or something. Ask around the USAir express crewroom upstairs in terminal F (above Sabaros)

dnkt,

Could you PM me about how you park free at ORD? Do you work for CAL? I commute out of ORD all the time and would like to find some cheaper parking. Thanks for the help.

from what i see the hotels around the phl airport are starting to crack down on parkers who don't stay in the hotel. I know the hilton will tow after 24 hours.

to get a parking pass go to the pass office just outside c terminal - where the police station is.

if you can't get a pass for the employee lot then you can pay monthly at the many commercial lots outside the airport. there is one along Island Ave, just down from the hilton twards the FBO that is 60/month for a pass a few years back. Ameripark or express park somehting like that. these lots have shuttles to the terminal.

That sounds a lot easier than it is. The office will only deal with employee parking something like one day a week for about two hours. If you are not there during this period, they won't help you. Even if you go in and they are watching Judge Joe Brown on TV, they will tell you to come back at the right time. Good Luck!

They have randomly been looking at your picture on your ID as you enter the lot. Believe it or not, PHL is actually cracking down on things. As for cars being stolen and such, never seen it, never heard about it. My instinct is that all this stuff happened a while ago, things have actually improved. The only story I know is absolutely true is the one about the express manager that was nearly beaten to death in the parking lot for having a couple rampers fired, and then they burned his car, some lovely people from north and west philly. Soooo glad I drive the hour to bucks. (Center city is nice, west and north are still a war zone)

Try Preflight, it's on the east side of the airport over by the old overseas terminal on Island Ave, apprch end of RWY 17. It's $70 per month ( need to give them CC#) indoor/outdoor (indoor is like 30 bucks more, I think). Never had to wait more than 10 mins. outside of baggage claim for them. # 215-937-1700

Sounds like what the Eagles fans do to Cowboys fans that come to the Linc and mouth off about T.O. and Romo too much. Gotta love Philly...

Ever heard of the word 'Integrity'?
I mean...you're telling this person to 'lie' outright!

Oh no, its the parking police! I've read through the post three times and could'nt find anywhere it said to lie! I'm going to go out on a limb and guess your not an airline pilot. This is typical behaviour for an airline pilot (and FA's for that matter). Pilots are the cheapest mo'fos around! But hey, if we did'nt have pilots fighting over pennies, copper wire would never have been invented!

I'm sorry I just couldn't help but post here even though I have no real advice.

Having just read the topic of this post I feel like I NEED to say:

What? Pull into the parking stall, apply brake, shift into park, and remove the keys from the ignition. I didnt know pilots parked differently from anyone else...

Sorry for that...
