US Airways Releases Additional Statement Regarding Alleged DUI Incident
Friday February 9, 9:17 pm ET
TEMPE, Ariz., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- US Airways (NYSE: LCC - News) today released the following statement in response to press inquiries regarding prior alcohol related offenses.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050223/LAW097LOGO)
Chairman and CEO Doug Parker stated, "While dated, I was regrettably involved in three other alcohol-related incidents in my twenties. Two involved driving under the influence (one a misdemeanor) and the third occurred in college while a passenger in a friend's car.
"As it relates to my past, I admit that I was indeed irresponsible at times in my twenties. I got my wake-up call long ago as I got married, had kids, and assumed positions of responsibility at work. As I communicated to our employees earlier this morning, my mistake of last week was just that -- a mistake, not a trend and I believe that events from 15 and 20 years ago do not reflect on the person I am today. "Once again, I am extremely sorry for the embarrassment I have brought upon US Airways. I accept full responsibility for my actions and guarantee it will not happen again. I can't do much to change what I did in my twenties but I can make sure that I handle all of this with the professionalism and integrity that I value in myself and that our employees, customers and shareholders deserve. All of our stakeholders have my commitment to do just that." (LCCG)

Talk about a fall from Grace....One minute you're telling the business community you want to run the largest airline in the world, the next you're in a jail cell in AZ wearing pink panties playing butt smack and bent back with "bubba."

Not many Bubbas in AZ, but a lot of Julios and Juans.
I can hear Doug crying: No mas, mucho Julio!

Hmm, what would the FAA do?

A third DWI/DUI cannot be ignored by the FAA. A pilot in this situation has a problem. The AME and FAA will probably ground the pilot until a formal evaluation is made and appropriate treatment is completed. That process should be discussed with your AME. After successful treatment, the FAA will certify a dependent pilot.

I always thought the most interesting fact about Parker was his "hobby" of high-stakes gambling trips to Las Vegas. Kinda fits with the whole picture, doesn't it?

Dude, you're talking about a bunch of arrogant Delta Dorks. They could be closing the doors and they'd still be strutting around like their airline(sh!t) didn't stink.

Yea but they would look so good in those double breasted chaufuer suits. Thats what makes them better than you. Or is it something else....hmmmm

Sounds like more than a little envy . . . . The Delta pilot uniforms are probably the best-looking ones, if you ask me, not that uniforms matter much anyway.

I have flown with quite a few of the "retired" Delta guys that we have hired. Being able to go from 76ER Check Airman to 737FO at an LCC and do it with grace, dignity and enthusiasm says about about their character, and your post says a lot about yours.

So does this mean all pilots with multiple whiskey tickets cannot be turned down by US Air now?

Lead by example, and all that crap...

All airline CEO's are criminals. Just some are more overt than others. Its the double standard, you can't be a felon and get an ATP but you can run an airline....

Bankrupt airlines shouldn't throw stones.

Is this the same airline that WITHOUT the ATSB loan would have ceased to exist?
This is for you and your girlfriend Hpilot:

2001 was the year Parker got tapped as America West's CEO, starting the new job on Sept. 1. The company had improved its finances and things like on-time performance, and there was a fair amount of optimism in the room when Parker and his new management team went outfor drinks across the street from the office on the evening of Sept. 10, 2001. One of the things they felt good about was the $200 million in financing they had just lined up for the company.
Parker was getting dressed just before
6 a.m. local time the next morning when he got a phone call from his sister about the first plane hitting the World Trade Center. He watched a few minutes of the coverage before he left the room to continue getting dressed when his wife ran in to tell him about the second plane. His system operation and control people immediately called to say all planes were being grounded.
"I remember being elated to learn all our planes were safely on the ground," he said. "Later that day, once we started having conversations with FAA and DOT, who were telling us the skies were not going to be reopened the next day, it quickly became clear to a number of us that this was going to have a real impact."
The airline's new financing had disappeared, and it was left with significantly less cash on hand, even relative to its size, than other carriers.
When Parker spoke to the America West board before being named CEO, he remembers telling them the one area he didn't have much experience in was government relations, but he didn't think that was much of an issue for an airline its size.
But he was soon attending meetings at the White House, and he testified before Congress on Sept. 19, urging both direct help for airlines and loan guarantees from the new three-member Air Transportation Stabilization Board.
"We were the poster child for the ATSB program. We literally were an airline that could raise money before 9/11 but with the capital markets closed couldn't raise it," he recalled. "Without a loan guarantee we were going to find ourselves liquidating."
The $380 million loan guarantee was approved on a split vote, with a Treasury official voting no because he thought the government would end up on the hook for the loan. America West had the breathing room it needed to survive, and the federal government controlled a third of the company.

How can a man who just got a DUI say that having two others in the past doesn't reflect on who he is today? Well, if it walks like a duck and sounds like a duck we probably all know what it is.

Parker is nothing more than a rich drunk! Sad to say I work for this loser...

Whats your point? That was over 5 years ago.

Bankrupt airlines shouldn't throw stones.

The fact is Johnny, it was a fall from grace. This will be Parkers 4th alcohol related offense. Do you think the LCC BOD will want someone with an alcohol problem running the airline?

Whats your point? That was over 5 years ago.

Your friends keep reminding me that we're in BK, yet they seem to forget quickly how their precious airline almost ceased to exist without an ATSB loan, in addition to their (AWA's) previous trip into the BK courts!

FDJ2 and 737 Plyt why don't you just save the hassle and combine you're posts? You're obviously the same person and it's getting pathetic. All that wasted time closing one window and opening another. At first I thought maybe you were the General too, but he actually has coherent thoughts. You really should seek professional help.

I'm sorry we ruffled your feathers HP, but the gentleman who really needs professional help is that lush you have as a CEO. He's only interested in the short term gain he can make on your backs and where he can find a good happy hour.

Impressive, paying yourself compliments. If you're so smart why are you working for bankrupt airline?

Hysterical!
See what a 2 year degree at a community college gets you!
Yet we're still better paid than those rascally cactus pilots!
There's a reason the best you could do was america west!
