We are considering taking our lj45's in. Its looking like it will only be on vfr days when the wind is favoring 20(-.81 slope). I personally like the idea of flying to ketchikan and having pax charter to klawock. Too many things have to be perfect for the lear to land at that airport. I was hoping someone had some info on the airport, services(or lack of), runway, atc etc...
I used to fly an Islander there YEARS ago. I wouldn't worry to much about the runway or slope. If you have the performance numbers I would say go for it. The weather will be your biggest obstacle. I wouldn't push it trying to circle for 20 unless you have a good visual over the tidal bay just to the north. Plan to use Ketchikan as an alternate. I have a friend who flys for a company that does IFR to PAKW for an air taxi there. Might be more advantageous to drop in PAKT and have your people charter if the weather causes a divert. Local knowledge there is a huge plus. PM if you need more info.
Never landed there, but have flown right by the airport multiple times at low level several years ago. There was a Falcon 50 there one of those times. Definitely obstacles, but the GPS is good. It is really beautiful, even when the weather is cruddy, which it probably will be.
Your lodging is limited in Klawock and if I recall, there was no fuel available there either. There may be an "FBO" trailer. Ketchikan is okay; there's a ferry to/from the airport. Alaska Aero Services "FBO" at Sitka is excellent also. I find Sitka more pleasant. The advantage of Ketchikan is the ILS mins. Sitka is a great place though and the LDA mins are good.
