wondering if anyone out there knows anything or anyone from pacific jet in van nuys? a friend inside is working a possible interview for me later this yr and im wondering about the lifestyle there.

Why Pacific Jet when there are a number of companies in the SoCal area that might be a better decision for your career...especially if you have experience in the Gulfstream, Challenger and Boeing. I know that a couple of pilots who went to Pacific Jet were former pilots of some of the major operators in SoCal.

If your friend is truly a friend, he will know the companies in SoCal that are worth your time.

Taxidriver - I'll bite; who in SoCal would you suggest for someone with substantial 737 time and a type rating?

If you are current in the 737 NG equipment, I might suggest Clay Lacy. I believe they have at least 3 BBJ's.

Obviously you are a highly qualified pilot (flight time, types, etc), however, from what I have seen many operators in SoCal now are only looking for pilots who have a current PIC check in the airplane they are hiring for.

I have recommended many of my furloughed airline friends that could fly a bathtub (if it had wings), but my CP told me not to bother him if they weren't current in what we flew.

again i ask: does anyone have INFO on pacific jet, or for that matter, clay lacy. i heard they work their asses off for peanuts. is that true?

Clay Lacy, yes they work for peanuts and fly their butts off. First year pay is around 32K FO in the Lear. However it is a respectable company. So is AvJet, Petersen, Raytheon, SummitJets, Air Group and numerous 91 gigs in the area. In the past month I remember seeing multiple Gulfstream PIC jobs being advertised on the net.

LIKE I SAID PREVIOUSLY, since your friend flies for PacJet he should be able to give you guidance as to where you should look.

From what I have seen, a current and qualified pilot in the SoCal area that is not full of "You better hire me, because you need me!" can find work with a good company.

my bud at pacjets isnt a pilot, works for them back east, and has only been with them a month. thats why he isnt able to help much in this area.

I have a few friends who work for Pacific Jet and have tried to land a copilot job with them. I know they work some long and hard hours, but get paid reasonable wages and are taken care of on overnighters. When they are busy my friends will fly over 20 days per month, and have been stuck in TEB waiting for a trip back west. All of my friends are on salary and have about 5 guaranteed days off per month.

Thought I would bring this post back up in order to inform anyone that is looking to apply there....you might think twice.

Word in the SoCal aviation community is within the past week this carrier took an aircraft that was not listed on their charter certificate and flew a charter to Europe. I guess upon reaching US territory on the return trip, they were escorted by F-15s to the nearest airfield and met by armed military on the ground. Haven't heard what happened after that.

The very next day several pilots were out looking for jobs in fear of the recourse the FAA and FBI will take.

I might look twice at a job there....
