Fascinating stuff, this memo you posted. Aviation is sure full of characters, isn't it? The guy who ran the flight school my dad attended down at OPF in the 'Sixties called himself "Captain," even though he'd never worked at an airline. He finally got in trouble with the FAA and the insurance folks after he was forced to ditch his twin in the Atlantic not far off-shore.

They wanted to know why his wife just happened to be nearby in a small boat, ready to pick him up.
