Overhead break for the C-5

Took a little break from the ol' jet fuel factory at lunch to run an errand out at Ellington Field. They've got an airshow beginning tomorrow. While I was there, got to see quite a few planes arrive. Wildcat, numerous Jap (replicas) planes, F-15s, C-17, EC-135, KC-135, A-10's, etc. But the best was the C-5 doing the overhead (carrier) break!

Made intial at ~1000'. Pulled up for the break and climbed to downwind. Looking right up the tailpipes I'd guess he was climbing 20-25°, banked 30-40° - in a C-5! Must be fun to have the boss give you the keys and head to a show.

Great !! Any photos? Currently flying C5s and don't see that too often. Of course after flying fighters, 40 deg AOB and 25 deg nose up is basically straight and level.

Unfortunately, no. will be out there tomorrow, but doubt they'll fly the C-5. Had one C-17 on the ground and another arriving. They'll probably fly tomorrow, but it's not quite the same.

I fly out of an GA airport 3 miles south of Miramar (where Top Gun was filmed). I've seen just about everything in the break from Citations and Kingairs to C-5's, 17's & 130's, even a UAL 747 bringing the troops home from Iraq. I guess it's just something about that airport that brings out the "Maverick" in everybody who's "cleared for the overhead"

i remember a KC-10 arriving for a show at daytona beach about 12 years ago - over the threshold he pitched up STEEP and leveled off at about 1500 feet

last wekend in san francisco, the blue angels c-130 started the show by buzzing from behind and perpendicaular to the crowd.
