:) Every year at the latter part of july is the Oshkosh fly in. I have been there many years and plan to go again this year. If you want to see the latest and greatest in all forms of aviation you got to go.
I am located 150 miles north of Oshkosh in beatiful northern wisconsin. I have a large graded lot for motor homes and trailers. The best thing about this is the price. Free Free Free So if you want to visit northern wisconsin and go to Oshkosh tell me well in advance of getting here. Electricity and water is available. My telephone is 715-477-0137 (with answering machine) and my email is [email protected] .

Are you offering sites to stay at, 150 miles from OSH, for people who want to see OSH?
That seems a bit far from the actual destination. Or is that a typo,...15 miles?

doesnt appear to by a typo, acoording to google maps from oskosh to the address returned from the telephone number it is 157 miles.
In years when I have gone, if you did not set up a camp site on the airport grounds, you couldn't get a hotel/motel room for a 50 mile radius of Oshkosh. Many rooms are booked several years in advance of the event. One year I rented a small motor home and put it on the airport camp site. It cost me $800 for renting the motor home for 4 days, so all things considered, it wasn't too bad given the convenience of being right on grounds and the elimination of a lot of driving to and from the show.

Remember big fires start from small fires and the ground is always a killer if you hit it in an airplane.

Going to Oshkosh

If you ever went to Oshkosh you would know that 150 miles away parking is great. Please go to Oshkosh the normal way and tell us all how much you spent and where you stayed.

Sounds like a great deal to me. I would spend all summer in northern Wisconsin if "the man" would let me. I spent some time in northern Wisconsin a few years ago... some of the most beautiful land I have ever seen. Make sure to bring your bug spray, the mosquitos are rough (I think they are the state bird).

Going to Oshkosh and No. Wisconsin

You can come to Northern Wisconsin if you like. The great northern bird here is the mosquito our state bird is the bobin robin. This year it is dry so we don't see as many (sketers yet). We also have many other birds also. The bald eagle, sandhill crane (hear em every morning), philiated woodpecker ( the little one that stands about 1 foot tall), red white yellow gray blue and many other song birds that I don't know, and the neighbor even seen a tom turkey walking down the road. Besides the birds you don't have a good day if you don't see at least one deer each day. Althoug I am .7 mile from US45 you can still cross and walk the road with out getting run over! All of the motels within 50 miles of Oshkosh are booked years in advance. The trailer parks around here are open in winter though. I tell folks that if you stay too long I just put you to work. (Free Exercise) I live in Vilas county which is next to the uuppers in the upper part of Michigan , Ya hay dare. Those folks have all the turdy point bucks tied up. Youngins are always welcome.

I've been about 8 times but always flew. Had no idea you'd have to stay 3hrs away if you were driving and hadn't booked a place!

I used to fly for a 135 outfit in WI, loved every minute of it. Beatiful country, and fond memories. Think I may try to get to Osh Kosh this year.

220 miles north from my house to Oshkosh. I just drive up every other day when I can during Air Venture.

Leave House: 4am
Arrive Oshkosh: 7-7:30am

Leave Oshkosh Area: 6-8pm
Arrive Home: 11pm-12am

Rest for 1 day(work and make some more money to spend, hehehe), then do it again!

Best of both worlds...

I live in Madison (MSN) and have a place on the Oneida/Vilas county line, just west of Minocqua (ARV). Best of both worlds, and I/my family are very fortunate to have the place in Minocqua, no question. IMHO, best place in the world, almost year-round. Winters are cold, but the snow is great (usually) and the summers can't be beat. Here's a little-known fact about mosquitoes (at least in Minocqua): if you can hold out from about 9:15/9:30 to about 10:15/10:30, they don't bother you after total darkness. Good for beers on the pier after fishing.

ARV is a great airport, as are Eagle River (EGV) and Rhinelander (RHI). RHI has an ILS and air service by NWAirlink (Mesaba) and Midwest Airlines through Skyway. No RJs there yet, though. Perhaps one day.

If you can't find a place in the OSH immediate area, I would recommend Madison, either downtown or east/northeast side. Great city, lots to do if you're not going to be at OSH each day. It's a very easy drive from that part of MSN to OSH, less than 1.5 hours on US 151 which is four lanes and 65 mph from MSN to just northeast of Waupun, then it's Highway 26 from there to OSH (watch out in Rosendale for their notorious speed traps - no exaggeration, they must pay for two new squad cars a year minimum, what with OSH and Packer game attendees who forget to slow down from 55 to 30 on the outskirts of that sleepy little town).

Usually, I go for a day, departing the near west side of MSN around 7:30 a.m., arrive OSH at about 8:45, park, hop the bus at the museum and hit the exhibition halls before lunch, then it's out to the flight lines. We're very fortunate to have EAA's annual fly-in so close.

I think there will be better attendance this year than in recent years because the Scaled Composites/Virgin Global Flyer, SpaceShipOne and White Knight will all be there. It has seemed that recently they have not had unique aircraft on display since the Concorde was last there. I am hoping for a visit by a F-22 this year. Seems that they have enough of them now that perhaps they can spare one for a few days to send to EAA.

See you there!! PM me if you'd like a recommendation on hotels in this area.

I fly into Oshkosh every year, I know how to get a CHEAP and available room and where, P.M. me if you want details.
