Seems to go like this. The company has aircraft owners (individuals, flight schools, FBOs, etc) who offer their planes for rent to pilots who are members of this company. The pilots get a checkout every year that is recognized by the aircraft owners and so the pilot just goes on line, finds an airplane listed by the company, schedules flies and pays. No need for any other checkout by the owner/representative. Not sure about the CAP standard check ride.
Sounds efficient if it works. A 10% cut to the middle man (OpenAirplane) could run into some extra cash but if you're not a regular with the plane, maybe the savings from the check out would be worth it. Might be an annual fee or something but I didn't see that mentioned. Seems like a take off (pun intended) on BnB and Uber.
It has been forever since I rented but maybe there is some demand out there for this kind of service.
