Has anyone who had an application on file received a letter from SWA about the new online application?

I talked to LL last week and she had the letters on her desk. She said that I should expect to receive it around the first week in Jan. I live in Texas so I would assume others would receive it shortly after that.

Great news

Sounds like she is mailing them next week. Did she say how many are going out? Probably 3000-4000?

I got an e-mail reply from Lindsey regarding the new online app. You will need at least 10 years of employer history, residence history, and a detailed flying history. In addition, if you were a previous applicant on paper, there will be a place on the app to indicate the date of your initial application. She also said it is a lot more detailed than the old supplemental pilot form.

Got the letter this morning. The letter was as advertised. Simply says online app will be available on Jan. 12 and you must reapply. If you fail to fill out an online app but have a paper app in, you will still drop out of the system. Everone must fill out the new online app. You must update every 6 months or you will drop out of the system. No big suprises in the letter. It did have my specific application date in the letter. I think this is so there will be no confusion (as to what the date was) when I re-enter my information online. There is supposed to be a place to enter original app date on the online app.

It did say, "we anticipate interviews beginning by 2nd quarter..."
I read that to mean they will begin prior to the second quarter. Hope to get a call in Jan or Feb.

Good luck everyone!

Received my letter this afternoon stating the same thing, reapply on Jan.12 with interviews by the 2nd Qtr. It was a nice letter to receive on Christmas eve. Looks like the new year should be fantastic. Hoping to get an interview soon myself. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone.

Got Letter? I did, today!

I'm wondering now about the L.O.R.'s I sent in with my original application. Will I need to resubmit these with the online app? Should I plan on bringing them with me instead? Should I simply submit new, more up-to-date ones?

Also, it doesn't look as if those that have already applied will get to re-apply PRIOR to the opening of the new window on the 12th of January, 2004. I guess that's what the original application date in the letter is for then, eh?

Good luck to everyone out there!

Southwest Airlines Flight Operations Department
Information for Prospective Pilots
Thank you for your interest in a flying career with Southwest Airlines. We will begin accepting applications via our new online application on January 12, 2004. Please refer back to this page for instructions on how to submit your information.

This is right off their web site.

May the fastest typist finsh last.

Good Luck to all applying, Hope to see ya'll there soon.

...and you have a type rating

I received the letter and I thought it was interesting that it said "according to our records you applied on XX/XX/XXXX and you have a 737 type rating". Gave me the impression that type rating carries a certain weight and is as important as the application date.
I really don't see the difference in getting a "head start" in applying since the letter clearly states that the interviews will be granted on a "competitive basis" meaning not in the order received. It does not say however by which date they will start ranking the applications to grant interviews.
Really an exciting time for all of us. Good luck to everyone!

Previous SWA applications required a current First Class Medical
at the time of application. Curious if the online application process
would require a current First Class when applying, or current at
the interview?

I received a letter from the people dept a few days ago requesting I submit an online application if I was still interested in employment with SWA.

On Line APPlication

I applied DEC.02 recieved a letter on the 26th DEC. stating that I have a 737 Type and to reapply on the 12 of Jan ON LINE.

Can anyone tell me what things I should gather to prepare to submit the online application? Should I expect to enter the names, or perhaps the entire text of letters of recommendation? What logbook time break down has SWA required in the past? Are there perhaps going to be essays etc.?

Any details to help prepare for the 12th? Thank you.

Old App.

The old SWA supplemental pilot information was fairly straightforward except for two sections: employment information and fixed wing flying information. The employment information goes back for 10 years and you had to provide company, contact primary and alternate numbers, position held and reasons for leaving. Also, unemployment information if unemployed for any length of time. The fixed wing flying information was for 5 years of flying history for aircraft, hours and position. Someone mentioned that this time around the application would be more detailed. No idea of how the LORs will be submitted. I would expect to see the old information plus some additions.

Yes, you should be prepared to physically type in every letter of recommendation, word for word, letter for letter, exactly as written in the original LOR. There is also a requirement for a minimum of a 1500 word essay addressing the "desirable qualities of a 21st century airline pilot." Also, don't forget to include the names of any of your first-born sons. This data will be filed away for use at a later time.

LOL...all kidding aside, I wouldn't be surprised if it looks a bit similar to the online app currently in use at JB. See my previous post as Lindsey Lang sent me an e-mail telling me what the critical items were, and what to have prepared for data input. Scanning LORs as JPG files might be a possibility, but I doubt they will require that as most people do not own a scanner. Good Luck.

Word from PD is that they will not get to working on applications until February - so don't stress yourselves out by standing by to submit at 0001 on 12 January. Also, I thought is was interesting that the letter stated that you have to update a minimum of six months to stay in the system. I guess you should update after every flight!!!! Good luck to all
