Hello all,

I need a little help. I am looking for an online degree, not a fake one...one from an accredited school. I really don't care what it is in. I have about 30 college credits so far and would obviously like to use those. I understand there are some schools that offer credit for life experience.

Has anyone used any of thse schools and if so, who are they? I have looked at Thomas Edison College and Grand Canyon University. I don't want to spend $300/credit and I want to get this over as quick and painlessly as possible.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Painless, accredited AND cheap? Hahahahaha... :D Have you ever thought about a career in stand up comedy? I'd recommend my on-line school, it's accredited, but expensive and the only easy day is yesterday.

Bellevue University in NE
Variety of programs, good prices, and nice learning format. It will allow you to get done in about half the time, but with some honest effort. Plan on writing papers for 5-10 hours a week.

Try Utah Valley State. My friend is finishing his online 4-yr in aviation, cheaply. As an online ERAU student myself, I would stay far away. ERAU is way overpriced!

I did the online degree at UVSC. It's reasonably priced and as painless as it can get. You get tons of credit for your ratings.

I recently enrolled at ERAU online. $177/credit hour. You can start with a local community college and pay half of that, if you want, and then hopefully transfer it into an aviation program at another college as well.

Try www.ncu.edu . I am half way through an MBA program and the classes are 100% online. This University is accredited by the Higher Learner Commission which is part of the Department of Education. I work for FedEx and they require that the university be accredited before they will pay. They have paid for the first six classes so it must be legit. Check it out

How was your testing done? Did you have anything other than a book to learn from?

I just started an online program 2 months ago and have been disappointed with it. Reading 130 page a week and having that as my only source of info isn't very good. I would love to have some sort of lessons available to reinforce the text.

Just curious if tht's the way it is everywhere.

Many of the classes I took had other material available. Some had videos to rent, interactive CD-Rom's, or info available on the class website.

As for testing, some classes had open book tests that were done online others required a proctor. I worked at a flight school at the time and they were an approved testing center, so I had the tests sent there and they administered the tests.

Fastest Degree

I went through a similar situation when I decided I was getting out of the Army. I walked in and told the education counselor that I needed the fastest/easiest 4 yr degree from an accredited school. They pointed me to Regents now known as Excelsior. They accessed all my previous college credits, plus military schools and training and gave me a ton of credits. I was still short so they sent me to take some Dantes and Clep tests to finish out the rest. I had my 4 yr degree in a couple of months. These tests were free for the military but I think they go for about $150 a pop. If you pass one they qualify for 3 upper or lower level credit hours. The final process once I had all the required credits was the $1000 administrative fee, (VA paid for 60%). They sent me a degree, my transcripts, and I have never had any questions raised. My last employer did a verification of my degree and nothing out of the ordinary... Just verified the degree....

I will second the Excelsior College suggestion. I got a lot of credit for my flight training and finished up my degree with previous college and a combination of CLEP,DANTES and ECE exams.

Using Instantcert I was able to test out of 12 upper level hours in two months at a cost of about $20 hr. Just study Instantcert and test out.

my suggestion is get a degree in something other than aviation. It doesnt help if you need to do something else, and you dont need an aviation degree to get an aviation job. take it from someone who has an aviation degree that would love to have spent their four years on something else. My question is how to get another degree with an aviation degree?

Wahoo-

I had a B.S. in Av. Went to enroll in the MBA program and had to take several prep courses before I was allowed to take a Masters course. I was offered to "test out," but I felt that I needed the courses.

yeah i think im going to go that route as well. I havnt been in school in a few so i think i need a refresher. also looking into an mba, any recomendations on how to do it...night school or just finding the time to attend classes?

Check out Oklahoma City University's P.L.U.S. Program. PLUS stands for Prior Learning + University Studies. You will be able to get credit for some things you already have accomplished in life. You will have to take some courses, which are online 8 or 16 week courses. You only have to go to Oklahoma City for one course for one day...the purpose of that is to teach you how to make a "portfolio" for getting credit for what you have already done. I strongy suggest you look into this. The program director for the PLUS program will give you personal attention for all of your academic needs.

Check out the WebMBA program Kennesaw State University. When you are talking about an accredited business school, you are talking about being a AACSB accredited school (http://www.aacsb.edu/) and KSU’s program is fully accredited. You will need to take the GMAT befor you apply.

You attend a 2 day seminar in ATL but everything after that is web based. You are on a semester schedule and can order your books on-line or buy then at the campus bookstore if you live near. Check here for more information http://www.webmbaonline.org/inst/ksu.phtml.

Good luck,

To the folks that used Excelsior, I am about to pull the trigger there and start on a 4 yr degree. I am wondering how many credits they gave you, and which degrees you decided to get. I mean, can the certificates be applied to any of their 4 yr degrees? What CLEP study guides worked best for you and why? THANKS!

+1, anyone?

Excelsior

I don't know exactly what they will give out, but they are pretty easy on it. I was credited with a ton for my military (as I said earlier), and that took care of almost all my credits, flight tng and warrant officer school was the bulk, but they have a good program with the Dantes and such to fill in the voids. You can pretty much test out of just about everything as far as I know. As far as what to get? Just ask them which will my credits get the most bang for the buck, and what is the EASIEST PATH! I cannot stress this enough, don't worry what the title on the degree is, just get it under your belt. All I have been asked at my interviews over the years is, "Do you have a 4 year degree?" Answer: "Yes." Didn't ask from where, or in what. Just asked if I had transcripts to prove it, that was the extent of it. No GPA, nothing. They just want to check the box. Lots of my friends spent thousands upon thousands to get a degree and still have the same job I do...

Getting credit for "life experience" is pure bull. Don't confuse activity for achievement! There are no short cuts when it comes to a real college degree.

Tell that to all those who have received honorary graduate and doctorate degrees. Getting yout degree online is no walk in the park. It takes alot of self discipline and one's study habits have to be considerably honed.

Sorry didn't take any classes, I tested out of all of them. Tests were free in the military. But I think the tests went anywhere from 150-250. Some were essays for credit. I took a bunch of history, gerentology, and a few other scattered ones.
