I'm taking a few of my classes online for my degree through the Metropolitan State College of Denver. I've taken just under 1/3 of my classes online. We take the same exams as those who take the class on campus do and often we take them in-person at our testing center on campus.
Wow, it's a small world..
I took a one semester online from Metro while I was working on my A&P, and then liked it so much I ended p taking my whole last year online while I worked at my first airline job. It was well worth it, because I had a flying position, and I was able to get me 4 year degree.
On that note, however - online classes can be challenging - finding the motivation to do schoolwork on my days off was sometimes difficult
Good Luck
Just looking for thoughts or possiblities for online classes. Baker online has classes I can take or University of Phoenix also. Looking for feedback form others that have gotten their degrees online. What schools they went trough to get them.
With your times and certs. ERAU online will give you about 36 hours of credit, plus whatever else you have taken. Not bad if you don't mind having a aviation degree\
IMHO, I think the best way to go is to take as many GE classes as you can through your local community college's distance learning department, then take the required "aviation" and specialty classes through ERAU. UVSC is only "regionally accredited", so you might have some problems with that degree being accepted.
I took several online courses through Coastline Community College and Santa Rosa Community Collge for only $11 per unit ($33 per class). I took micro and macroeconomics, business english and a few other courses this way, and saved a ton of money. Although I already had a bachelor degree, I did an entire second degree through ERAU for about $9000 (including the costs of books , laptop, etc.) by taking courses at the community colleges. Just transfer in the max that ERAU will allow.
I have about 30 credits so far from ERAU distance learning. I would say that my experience so far has been ok. The classes are alittle much ($507.00) per class. My work pays for my school, If they didnt I would be going somewhere else. Quality wise, I think that it totally depends how much effort you put in. I have had classes were I log in only once a week (by choice) and I still pulled B's. Hope this helps someone... Email me if you need more help.
I am doing online classes with UTAH Valley State college. Cheaper than the previous posts and lost of fun. Major is in professional aviation. Started a year ago and am now a senior in college will finish in about 4 months.
sky37d, I don't really have anything to tell you about on line degree programs, other than I plan on contacting University of Phoenix about theirs soon.
I am going to take their criminal justice degree program and finish up my 4 year degree, probably starting in Jan. I currently have an associates in police science.
I haven't contacted them yet, but will be after Thanksgiving. I think that would be the best way to find out about their program.
Good luck with pursuing your goal of advancing your education, maybe we'll see you on line over at University of Phoenix.
Hey WrightAvia, my is wife is currently in the process of signing up for classes with U of Phoenix. She will start Dec 18th. I guess they are running a deal right now. If you sign up to start in December. They will waive the registration fee and buy all your books. She was going to wait until January also. Not anymore since they are paying or waiving the fees and book costs. Might want to check into it. I am waiting until January since my company is going to start paying for our classes then.
I've attended University of Phoenix, although I audited their night classes and not the online classroom. UOP operates the same way that ERAU does in that they will give credits for achievements professionally, such as certification, work experience, licenses held etc. you can test out for credits or even write lengthy compositions for credits.
The good thing about UOP is that it has one of the highest accreditation ratings, and is designed for the older, working professional, a business degree from UOP does carry more prestige than from other online universities.
A masters in business will exponentially increase your earning potential in most cases.
I've heard that a lot of the kinks that were formerly in the online program have been worked out, and they have upgraded their system, so it's easier to log on. The online program is more expensive; location based classes are about $800 per class and online they're about $1200 or more.
If your employer covers all or partial tuition expenses, UOP is a good choice.
My uncle teaches some sort of internet law and a few other courses along those lines for University of Phoenix. He does it in San Diego and from what he has told me they have there stuff together and he speaks nothing but pretty good things about the university and the online program in general. I guess they are quite expensive but much better then getting some aviation degree that would probably be useless.. I was accepted into the ERAU online program to finish up my degree up but I have scrapped those plans after talking to a few people and doing some research. I could not see wasting that kind of money on the ERAU online program when one can get a much more beneficial degree that someday can be put to use if one chooses to do so. I will probably enroll in the University of Phoenix program here very soon so I can finish up my degree.
Any specifics that he may be able to answer feel free to PM me and I will forward the questions to him.
good luck on whatever you decide.

I do believe they do offer "life experience" credits as well.
Hey 350 did you see what I posted about U O P waiving the fees before Dec. 10th. If you are interested in getting started now. Might be worth looking into and save you some money.
