I didn't see this coming. Ignore the law; we'll now make it a 'suggestion.'
Here's the law: http://www.faa.gov/news/updates/age_rule/media/HR4343_bill.pdf

Got this the other day from UAL ALPA:

To: United Pilots

From: MEC Negotiating Committee

Re: Important Safety of Flight Notice

It has come to our attention that one of our crews operated an international flight segment where both crewmembers at the controls during a critical phase of flight were over age 60. Please be advised that during a recent meeting with the FAA to discuss interpretations over the Fair Treatment of Experienced Pilots Act (Age 60), this issue was raised and the FAA suggested that at least one pilot under age 60 be at the controls during critical phases of the flight (takeoff/landing) on any international segment. The FAA indicated that they expect air carriers and the PIC to use best practices and crew management to comply with their suggestion. IF YOU DO not comply with this interpretation, YOU MAY BE PLACING YOURSELF IN VIOLATION OF this law.

I didn't think 2 over 60 guys COULD fly together in ICAO countries anyway.

Looks like I will be getting the PRIME SECOND break if I am flying with two over 60 geezers otherwise I am shutting the flight down on a three man crew.

Yeah, that's what I thought. That's not the case; if there's an augmented crew (3 or 4), only one has to be under the age of 60 according to this. And according to this, the FAA only suggests that the under 60 guy be at the controls in critical phases of flight. Nice.

(Best Johnny Carson voice)....I did not know that....

Albie-

Hows the first 30 days of Block Rep?

Busy, but fun. Nice to be in a position to have a voice, albeit one of a chorus and not being the lead solo.

Plenty of good things going on at FedEx right now in an otherwise awful business environment. I feel pretty blessed....
