Anyone who thinks attending an airshow has no risk is just plain stupid. Heck, I could be attending a football game and a riot could break out, or a terrorist could attack, but I don't lose sleep over it. This is another example of the news trying to scare people for ratings, when in reality this will make more people attend. Sometime I wonder if the people that come up with these news stories are the biggest pansies in the world. (Put politely for the censors)

How witty.
Witty bitty, to be exact.

But on with the topic of air shows.

Has anyone here ever participated as a pilot in air operations during an air show?

I have participated a couple of times, the feds were there and the featured performers were professional, for the most part safety was the key focus. I was impressed with the professional performers and their attitude toward safety, their demeanor was remarkable.

I would hate to see air shows prohibited.

I saw that report on AOL last night....must have been a slow news day.....I'm still trying to figure out how two planes colliding in mid-air on their way to an airshow has anything to do with the hazards to spectators DURING an airshow.

Exactly. If you can pick this out of one story, just imagine how rampant fear mongering is any news story.

They were showing video from the N.O. shooting that claimed 5 people and the news video kept focusing on a police officer lifting an AK by the crime scene. I'm supposing that the implication was that the AK was used to kill the five, but for all we know the dead guys might have had the AK. Which would make them sore winners in a contest with an appropriate prize for first place.

But I digress, the media is the helm of the country and we must be steered. Who else is going to look out for us?

Not to mention they were going to be GROUND exhibits.
