I thought about Omni until they told me I'd be a F/E until Judgement Day.

F/E Forever? Who gave you that Info? They are usually needing FO's more than any other position. I got a friend hired with 2k+ hours with no jet time. The 10 was my first jet as well. The schedules are ricoculous, but the experience looks great on resumes and I don't believe there is any other place where you will upgrade to captain on a widebody quicker than OmNi. If you believe in paying your dues, 2 years at Omni will allow you to check that box!

On another forum I traded PM's with a fellow flying there who said the F/E's stay on the panel, and recommended I wait for a F/O slot. If things are different now I'll reconsider.

My point was just get your stuff in. Think about whether or not you want the Omni lifestyle after they offer you a job. I'm sorry if I offended you , but your post reminded me of a guy who had a non flying job at brand X who wanted a flying job there. I listened to him for about a year telling anyone who would listen that the company wouldn't hire him. I went to management to find out why they wouldn't hire him and it was for one simple reason. HE NEVER APPLIED FOR THE JOB. They hired him almost immediately after he did apply if my memory serves me correctly. I didn't know if I wanted to fly freight but it didn't stop me from applying to UPS. If you want some NO BS advice, I would say if you believe your current job will ultimately get you where you want to be, just stay put! 18-22 days on the road is a really tough gig. If you think International wide-body experience will improve your resume and get you to your goal, well then maybe the sacrifice is worth it. Oh yeah, 2 more things. If you have kids, don't do it. If you are happily married and want to stay that way, DEFINITELY DON"T DO IT! Hope this is more help than my last post. Again, I apologize!

Thanks OmniDC10FO!! I have spoken to and called several Omni guys and they all have told me not to send in my stuff unless I am sure I want the Job.
They have told me all the bad and not a lot of good things about the lifestyle. They do keep telling me as you did, it may get me where I want to be alot quiker than my current flying job. I have lost 2 great woman because of this job so Omni does look that good in those regards. However it would only be for 2-3 years, I guess I should suck it up and apply!

Any modern equipment on those DC-10s?

I know that most DC-10s are old and archaic (unless they are reconfigured MD10s like those at Fedex). Are the Omni DC-10s equipped with any "modern" equipment beyond TCAS like FMS or even some EFIS? I thought NWA added some nice glass to their DC-10s before disposing them.

Most have the Honeywell HT9100 FMS with others having Litton 92's. The fleet is getting EADI's, and EHSI's as well as SATCOM. The EFB's are supposedly on their way as well. But I'll believe it when I see it.

Fedex owns the MD-10 STC. So unless somebody else is willing to pay Fedex a crapload of money to get it, I doubt you'll see an MD-10 outside of Fedex.
