Sorry, if you're too weak to carry your own bag up and down the stairs by yourself. Too weak to carry it up the curb after the hotel van drops you off, you should not be an FA.
If you can't move your own 25lbs bag, how the hell are you going to help someone in the event of an emergency?

I flew with one who couldn't lift any of her own bags because they were too heavy, she was tired or her back was aching.
Normally I help the FA's with their bags. But when you need to beg either pilot to grab your bags every time you have to move them, time to quit, Ginger.

Ouch but I know where you're coming from man!

I like the way we have to get medicals every 6-12 months and have to retire at 65 and all we do is SIT there all day in the cockpit! Now we have F/A that cant pick up there own bags, some are too wide to fit down the aisle. Can some of these F/A even fit through the over wing exit? I think the FAA needs to take a good look at who they are putting in charge of peoples safety. Is there some place we can start to report this stuff to the feds?

I am not trying to offend anyone with the following but, man that is a tough issue because it would really have to start with an overhaul of the job description and hiring criteria. I don't even know what kind of recurrent if any the FAs have. So I guess they would have to tighten the physical requirements of the recurrent training to weed out the weaklings.

Medical requirements would open up a whole new can of worms as well. I am not saying it is a bad idea but the FAA CAMI would have to come up with a whole new category. Seriously, don't you think you AME's waiting room is crowded enough?

I doubt the FAs could afford an annual medical.

I know if I were on a flight that had an elderly flight attendant I would definately be worried for the safety of the pax and my crew. Seriously, arent they the ones to take the crash axe and extinguish bulkhead fires?

I had a F/A have a heart attack on the van to the airport one morning. She spent 4 days in the hospital in some "ville" or a town in the midwest. No kidding I saw her at work 2 weeks later! If it was a pilot.....we would of lost or medical, fired and never worked as a pilot again! Scary!

Ouch. Would you talk about your mom like that? The day after Mothers Day! Tsk Tsk.

My mom even commented about the age and the mental stability of a F/A I was flying with when she was on my plane one day to NY

When there is an old FA on a flight I'm riding on, I am the one who takes the crash ax and fire extinguisher. I don't give a f#ck who thinks they are in charge, if there is a problem that they can't handle, I have no problem pushing them out of the way so I can make sure I make it out of that plane alive.

If you think that a member of your crew is incapable of performing his or her duties in a safe an effective matter you (or the PIC) have the crew member removed from duty. It is that simple. She simply cannot fly.

Think of it this way. You have an emergency. You and the FO do a spectacular job of bringing the plane in, you call for an evacuation and the FA cannot open her door or another exit on the plane. People get hurt evacuating the plane, or worse, die because of the bottleneck.

When the FAA debriefs the event, and the FA says "my back hurt and I could not get the door open. I told the Captain and he even helped me with my crew bag 'cause I could not carry it." Where do you think the next line of questions is going to go?

Would you let an FO fly who said "gee, Captain, I pulled my shoulder playing basketball this weekend... you are going to have to take all the legs as I cannot hold the yolk today." Seriously, the FA is a part of your crew. You are responsible for your crew.

Maybe a physical requirement, every 5 years or so? (first one being on the interview) kind of like a fire fighter where they have to carry a human down a ladder, maybe they have to open the 40lb emergency exit or something

I wish US airlines had the balls to pull off something like that. There would definitely be better eye candy in the sky! :pimp::beer:

Now now, don't be too hasty there. I've seen some super fine cougars in my day.

It will never happen here, we might offend someone, and nobody is allowed to have their feelings hurt anymore. That's why your kid got a 22nd place trophy at their soccer tournament this weekend, everyone is a winner, even if they suck!!!!

The prob is the second you land at the next airport you will be fired for discrimination! Nothing good would ever come from that!

If she was 18, beautiful, blond and couldn't lift her bags i would be OK with that.

I am also tired of the old hags that the airlines are hiring. Problem is their husbands are more than happy to send their wives away for 4 days at a time. They are glad to get rid of the old bats, spend evenings watching baseball and drinking beer.
And the old hags just love hanging out with younger pilot people. Better than vaccuuming the old double wide.

As bad as it sounds in asia and the middle east people wont put up with 60 year old F/A's serving them.. When they pay thousands of dollars to travel, they dont want some over weight grouchy dingbat F/A, they want someone who has a nice attitude, friendly, and looks capable if need be could save their lives.. with some of these F/A's, they may need their life saved by the pax

Nothing sexier than the furloughed TWA flight attendant who looks like white beef jerky and has a long hair growing out her nose.:puke:
