Hokay, so I have a few noob questions for everyone. Don't flame me I'm not looking to fight or start stuff, just to get my life in order.

1) When I'm not flying I'm playing the guitar, hopefully looking to start a band when I get off reserve. Right now I have an acoustic and an electric guitar here in STL but I have 4 more in Long Beach with my parents for safe keeping. Since I just got done with IOE I was wondering what the best way of getting those back out here would be? My idea was that I would jump home with the guitar bag (nicely padded but definately not safe for baggage handlers) and jump back say on an AA flight direct from STL to LAX. What would you do?

2) When looking for load information to J/S where do you look? How about when looking for just who flies what flights to where... I still really have no idea what to do and not to do when it comes to the J/S.

I dont think I have too many other questions but any advice you could lay on a new guy feel free to hit me with it!

Thanks a lot!

You are better off using Fed ex or UPS and insuring them. I am guitar player also and I do not trust any Airline Groundcrew with my guitars. At least with UPS, Fedex you will get your full amount or more if they break it or lose them, that is if you get the insurance. Oh and not to mention you have to get them through TSA, and everybody know how careful they are with everyone's stuff!!!

Has anybody ever seen that Eagle CA who carries his banjo around ORD? I used to see him all the time. Once he even rode with us in the jumpseat!

I rode the Jumpseat on Skywest one day out of ORD and the FO had a guitar behind his seat. I guess he takes it everywhere aswell!

I play to, but would never lug my guitar around. But if you need to travel with it once, I guess its acceptable to jumpseat with it and look like a tool!

Just as it is acceptable to take a picture of your pickup truck with giant (small penis) tires and use it as your avatar and look like a tool.

If you wear the old style Raybans, does that make you a tool with a little tool?

I guess it takes a real man to sit in a forum all night and judge another mans penis... Does your penis feel bigger now? FAG!

Dubya must be riding a bicycle. He will never get any!

I do. Maybe i'll post a picture of it on here TOO and brag that I make more money than you because I don't waste it on a super cool pickup.

Oh and bling, i'm a drummer, so when I crate my stuff to my friends and familys, does that make me a tool TOO.

I'll bet your next paycheck you were a ramper.

Wait wait...because I have a hobby outside of aviation...that makes me a tool...

...umm...define tool for me so I know we're on the same page...

Youre quite the cyberstud throwing your weight around and picking fights from behind your computer! Whats with being so insecure? Nobody called you a tool and yet you assumed I thought so... I do now after your display here tonight!

Yes strapping a guitar to your suitcase and wheeling it around in uniform every 4 day trip is for tools. Taking your drums to moms house doesnt make you a tool.

Please find me an acceptable avatar if mine bothers you so much! How about a pic of that 10 speed?

Yes I was a ramper/everything else at an outstation in college. So what? You want to bet paychecks over that? Have a good night and seek some help!

Read the above post concernng tools. Transporting your guitar does not make you a tool, but taking it on every trip kind of makes you one. But you just want to move some guitars, so no worries!

.....but taking it on every trip kind of makes you one...

No it doesn't.....who the f' cares what these people think....you got the info on how to transport them....take it with you on each trip if you want....practice in your room....it's cheaper than trying to go out every night drinking.....

Saluki, congrats on the new job. You at TSA?? As far as JS goes you need to find out from your own company how to check loads. I know that on UAL you can call 800 (888)UAL-LIST. Other then that I am not much help.

True!

If I see someone transporting an instrument, a sketchbook, a camera or even a 'deep' book on a trip I am more likely to think "there is a person with a life and interests outside of aviation" than I am to think that person is a "fag."

Strum away on the overnights or on long breaks I say. It beats b1tching about the company or lying to the CA about how much FA a$$ you've bagged. Probably makes you a more interesting person to share the cockpit with, at any rate.

I saw a license plate frame the other day that said...

"NICE TRUCK sorry about your p***s."

Sorry for the thread drift...

I just couldn't resist...

Priceless. Oh, and it's worth mentioning that my bike has a flashing light on it so that tools in big trucks with small penis' can see me.

Wow! It's the age old debate, who is cooler a guitar god or a drummer? And the other age old debate, what is cooler; trucks, motorcycles, or sports cars. Gesh. Dumb!

Nah, i'm bustin' this kid's chops 'cause he mouthed off about a guy and his guitar in the cockpit calling him a tool, and his profile $$ bragging.

When I logged onto Flightinfo I knew it was going to be bad, but not this bad...

DO NOT CHECK YOUR GUITARS!!!

When you have to travel with them take them with wide open flights or when you can afford not to go. Check www.flyzed.com to see loads. You can't see exact loads but they give you smiley faces that represent your chances of getting on or not. Use username "aal" and password "001". If you can't put your guitar in the overhead or in the cockpit, don't get on the flight.

I play so I'm sympathetic to people traveling with guitars, so I try to take care of people who travel with them. When I flew the CRJ if a guitar couldn't fit in the cabin and had to be gate checked I personally put it in the cargo bin and personally took it out. However if I didn't know there was a guitar back there I couldn't do anything about it. Don't count on every pilot being sympathetic.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Dude you know the guitar hero guitar doesn't cost that much money man why don't you just buy another one?

BC, you need load info just hit me up. Livin' the dream at TSA, eh?

You know how it be dogg!

Thanks everyone for all the help! I'll probably send PMs around when the time comes to get my stuff!

Hey man, you sound like you have your $hit together. From a major Capt, if you're still early into this shi!!y industry, pursue the guitar and the entertainment industry. Much more lucrative, if you are good, and little reliance on oil!
