employer:) I just talked to my immediate Mgr at the station I work at with Fedex, and got the lowdown on what it takes to be a pilot for them, and what they will pay for. They said this year they will pay $3000 toward my flight training, and $3500 every year thereafter. They said they promote from within whenever possible, but the pilot positions normally are not filled from within just due to the amount of Jet and Turboprop experience required. (Understandable) They said Pilots are usually hired after they have completed extensive military or corporate flying that gives them the necessary time/qualifications.

So that doesnt deter me one bit, I just know now what I need to do--get all my licenses/certs/ratings and tons of time. I know this may take 10-15 years, but have no problem pursuing this goal.

They did say my training had to be taken at a FAR Part 141 school (what exactly does that mean?)

Here is what they said they would pay for--
*Instrument Rating
*Commercial Pilot Certificate
*Required Flight time with an Instructor and/or Simulator

Any of the following ratings after obtaining your Commercial--
*Multi-engine Rating
*ATP
*Flight Engineer
*Certified Flight Instructor Rating

So basically they said I need to finish up my private on my own, then will start helping me out. They did say though whatever I do, it has to be done at a certified Part 141 school or institute to get everything paid for.

SO here are my questions--
1)How far will $3000 take me in accomplishing the above needed things each year?
2)How much jet and turbo time do you think is necessary before even applying for one of their entry level positions?
3)How long do you think it will take to do the above mentioned things? (years here, 10, 15, 20?)
4)Any other particular things I will need to accomplish before being ready?

Just trying to get together a game plan on what to try and accomplish each year over the next 10-15 years, and try and come up with a budget to start saving more to be able to afford all of it. Thanks for any and all help/assistance

Find a 141 school near enough for you to take your training on vacation.

When you are all fininished and have a job lined up, thank them by leaving with a two weeks notice.

That's what I would do.

You aren't going to be able to take a FedEx job with the 250 hours you get with the ratings. So you might as well get all you can out of them. Work there till you meet 135 mins by flying on the side. Then leave when you got the first good 135 job in the bag.
