To say I disagree with many of your political conclusions would be an understatement, but by and large I agree with your assessment of things. Seeing as though I disagree, I always try to get folks to explain why they say or do certain things, so that I can understand their reasoning better. It may persuade me (maybe not) but I find its a respectful way to better understand the "opposition"...

Let's start with this:

The McCain campain prepared information to attack Obama's choice of VP, whoever that might have been, before Obama's pick (ALL candidates do this).

In their logic for attacking the current Gov of VA (whom Obama considered for VP), McCain was going to say that he was NOT qualified to be VP because he was ONLY the mayor of tiny Richmond. Richmond is about the 100th largest city in the US.

Furthermore, the guy was also unqualified, McCain was going to say, because he is now ONLY the Governor of VA, which is one of the smaller states.

So, by McCain Campaign's OWN LOGIC, Palin is TOTALLY unqualified, because she was the mayor of TINY Wasilla, AK (the 50,000? largest city in the US), and only the Governor of AK, which ONLY has about 700,000 residents,.

Palin ran the Wasilla budget into the ground, going from a budget surplus, to it's current deficit.

Palin claims she has experience running the budget of AK. AK has MASSIVE oil and gas revenue, and typically PAYS the each resident each month. Running the budget of AK is very, very easy, compared with running the budget, of, say, VA.

So, take McCain's word for it: Palin is less qualified than the Gov of VA, who is unqalified to be VP.

3 or 4 years ago, the state of GA realized that many unwise mortgages were being made in their state. They passed state laws to limit the types of mortgages that good be written, so that the current loan mess wouldn't be occurring in their state. A number of other states did the same.

Then the Federal Governement, with GW Bush at the helm, and a REPUBLICAN congress quashed the GA, and the other states' laws.

Under pressure from lobbyists, who pointed out that restricting mortgages by various states would cut into the profits of their handlers, the Republicans caved.

They passed Federal legislation that OVERRODE any state restrictions. These laws took away states' power, and helped lead directly to the Socialization of the American Economy that is occurring today.

It's just business nothing personal or emotional. The democratic leadership is accountable for almost two years of an eight year republican administration....are the republicans accountable for anything? You can't be that one sided...especially if you are an "independent". I have seen democrats take accountability but I haven't seen republicans take ANY accountability. If you are "independent"... answer this..."Why are we in this economic mess?"

I am an independent and this happened under the watch of two years Democratic leadership. If it was under a year I would blame the Republicans. But too much time passed for the Dems not to see the situation.

All this started 15 years ago with it coming to a head now. Many people to blame on both sides of the aisle. But the only control a President really has on the economy is tax rates. Congress oversees the mechanics of the system. Barney Franke should resign immediately!

Oil was up $24 to near $130/bbl at one point today...last I checked CNBC it was up over $12.

This is happening because the nearly $1T corporate bailout package is weakening the value of the US dollar, and (again) institutional money is flowing into commodities like gold and oil.

The good news for Average Joeconsumer is gasoline futures were only up $0.05 at around $2.65/gal...that should equate to average retail prices going forward at or under $3.55...

Anyone realize these are Oct futures? Today was the last day of trading on Oct futures. Nov futures were up a little, 108 a barrel. It sucks but, a lot of people shorted Oct oil and needed to buy back. We will see where it goes tomorrow.

Dated Brent Spot shows $104.10 at 16:44 and WTI cushing spot shows $120.92 at 15:40..

I just looked at the Nymex crude really quick.
