When designing departures, designers shall assess the OIS beginning at the Departure End of Runway (DER) at the DER elevation. Past practice of starting the departure OIS at 35’ above DER elevation is no longer acceptable.
Future changes to TP308 will amend Chapter 12 and the departure forms to reflect the criteria. In the interim, new departure procedures shall be assessed using the DER elevation as the start elevation for the OIS. Existing procedures shall be re assessed when the procedures are up for review. Where penetrations of the OIS exist, a climb gradient shall be published.
