LaHood is actually a Peoria guy, not a Chicago guy.

I wouldn't bet that Oberstar's views won't carry much weight. The DL/NW deal was approved in a very different political environment under a more pro-business administration. Look at the issue that DL and US are having regarding the slot swap transaction and the new passenger bill of rights. The Obama administration is absolutely determined to not have a hands-off approach in this industry and is trying to assert its principles on this 'deregulated' industry.

I wouldn't put money on this merger being easily approved, even if Obama and LaHood are 'Illinois' people. This could get ugly before it's done!
