Well the first attempt in recent times at long haul LCC has failed. Freddie Laker is the only other one that springs to mind! (other than the business class models)
I guess Jetstar are going long haul as well as AirAsia X. Not sure Vigin Atlantic qualify as low cost.

Somehow I don't think O8 is finished. They have an AOC (a rare commodity in HKG), licences for some serious routes (OAK, YVR, LGW, MUC, SYD amongst others) trained crew, infrastructure, aircraft, a brand name (somewhat soiled now) - my gut feel is that a Chinese company will step in & snap them up, inject some cash, sack the halfwit that got them into the mess in the first place (S M1ller) and they'll be flying again.

IF that doesn't happen, a fine bunch of folks will be on the street and the traveling public will be the real losers.

Most of the scuttlebut out here in the Pearl Delta is that they are done. Once they stopped flying it would be too intensive and costly to get everything up and running again. KPMG has been assigned to liquidate their assets and there are plenty of takers...
Hainan Air group was the white knight, however during theiraudit of the company they found that the CEO had all his shares backing a personal loan and Hainan backed out immediately. It was a good company, however it lacked the feed the above long haul LCC's have....
