I always wonderd what happens to the CFI if his/her student fails? Does it get noted on your record or something? When interviewing do they ask if you have had students fail check rides?

No, nothing gets noted on your "permanent record". As a CFI, your reputation is the biggest thing that takes a hit (with both the examiner and the student base).

I was asked on a CFI interview what my student pass rate was. I was 1 for 3, with one forgetting to retract flaps on a short field takeoff and the other starting the turn to enter the pattern the wrong way about 15-20 degrees before realizing he was wrong and fixing it. The interviewer seemed a bit disappointed, but it didn't affect my ability to get the job. You can be the best CFI in the world, but you can't control or anticipate a singular brain fart that hasn't ever happened before the checkride.
