Does anyone know what hotels give crew rates, or just plain have descent rates, in NYC? I guess I would prefer a place that is near a subway line so I'm not limiting myself to Manhattan. I'll be spending 3 or 4 nights towards the end of the month with a friend and any suggestions are much appreciated.

If you are looking for inexpensive, try the Sunrise on Long Island. They have van service from JFK and easy access to Long Island Rail into the city. It is a favorite for the frugal JFK commuter. Phone number 516-593-1600.

If Manhatten is where you need to be, try the Milford or Howard-Johnsons. Both are a bit on the dumpy side (like 3rd world) but with good location and usually have crew rates available.

You can get the Hyatt in Jersey City for $38 or the Ramada at LGA for $50 by using Priceline.com

The Hotel Pennsylvania on 33d and 7th. Stayed there last summer for $130 night. A friend of mine booked there for this weekend at a little over $100. Walkable to/from the Port Authority Bus term 10-15 minutes, Times Square about the same. Subway lines just blocks away. Its a historic hotel - (Glenn Miller song - "Pennsylvania Six Five Thousand"...... dadada, dadada, daaaah - daaaah) right across from Madison Square Garden.
