How many are still on fulough and are they recalling at all. Also I know that they are replacing the DC-10 but what about the 747?

I don't fly for them, but I have heard that their DC-10s will be replaced with A330s----Hawaii will have the DC-10s the longest. The 747-400s, I have heard again, will eventually go to the Cargo side. The rest I don't know....

Some of the -400s were delivered only a year or two ago. Little early for the cargo side. ;-) The 747-400 is their long-haul aircraft. Without it, they would be hurting.

The 747-200s ARE moving to cargo, albeit slowly. I think NW is coverting two 747-200s to cargo configuration this year.

they have been recalling for a while now. With all of the bypass they might even have to hire by the end of the year.

Will never happen........

There are still roughly 550-600 furloughed. Those that have bypassed in the past are starting to return in the current recall classes. I believe the most recent recall list had 18 (?) or so spots filled with former bypasses. Adding to that is the fact that they are approaching the point in the furloughs where those returning are going to need the "whole enchilada" with regards to retraining. No more quickie short requals.

Now, yes, there are still some bypassing, but there is no way NW will be hiring off the street by the end of the year.
