Found this on my continental message boards. Just wanted to share. This was not a CAL pilot.

Subject: NW Senior VP in Jumpseat Govt Affairs

I had Andrea Fisher Newman on my jumpseat. I will give you a summary of what she said on our 1 hour flight. This is an aquisition and NOT a merger. Delta is buying Northwest with a stock swap, no cash, a stock swap of 1.25 NW shares to 1 DL share. She has no concerns whatsoever of getting past the DOT or Department of Justice. This merger IS going to happen regardless of who wants it and who does not want it. She said the frozen pension benefits would absolutely be protected in the transaction. There is no money for early out lump sum payouts to NWA pilots but the frozen pensions will be there. Both Delta and Northwest Managements Love Lee Moak DL's MEC Chairman. She said Anderson called Dave Stevens this week and wants a pilot agreement with Northwest Pilots. They are scarred to death of another summer from hell, sick calls etc. She said if Duane Woerth was still MEC chair of NW pilots they would have been able to get a joint seniority list done before Delta broke off on their own. She respects Dave Stevens and understands the seniority issue in depth. She has no respect for Bill Bartells in DTW. Her words not mine. She said the American airlines pilots need a reality check. Also said the United pilots got what they deserved after a 400 grand a year 747 capt wage. Steenland will not come to employees for more cuts. No front line employees will be layed off. The DOT and DOJ wants assurance no air fares will be raised which is impossible to guarantee with fuel at 119 a barrel. Our fuel costs are up 50% over this time last year. They want this to work and understand they need NWA pilots on board. As we taxied in to the terminal in DTW she said you better get a picture of all those Red Tails parked at their gates cause they will not be Red for long.

So if I go on another forum and say that I flew someone around who said something then it's gospel?

The internet is a big place full of people who don't always tell the truth. I may be lying right now. You just can't tell!

Shocking, they love Moak. He's a company stooge. I'm sure he'll fall right in line and do whatever mgt wants. No concessions? Whatever. They'll just get Moak to sweet talk the Delta Cult into taking another round....and they'll fall in line.

Does Delta mgt appoint the MEC chairman?

Ms. Newman will be one of the those middle management drones who'll get a 6-figure buyout...and disappear. Her comments are slanted.

If you stand real close to her, you can hear the ocean.

if she was that sure of herself NWA would not have had a history of the worst service of any major airline year after year. if there is a merger or acquisition I hope she is on the toilet detail.

Hmmmm, starts with a C and ends with a T and has UN in the middle...

Let's see....first, UAL Capts NEVER made 400 G's a year...but it's the PILOTS that got what they deserved, it's ALWAYS the pilot's fault....10,000 pilots were all fricken crazy, and a couple guys in management were the voices of reason. What are the odds? Despite all the effort UAL put in asking crazy interview questions to ensure they hired sane pilots...yet we were all nutty
And now, the AMR guys...they are nutty too. They need a "reality check". How dare they think they should make wages even close to management wages...stupid bus drivers...

Translation: Shut up and color. Take whatever pay we give you and be happy you got it. Your pension is safe....until we decide it isn't.

For the life of me I can never understand why these "little c" captains sit there and take this type of arrogant BS without ripping someone's head off...

Why doesnt a captain of a widebody deserve 400 dollars an hour. It would have been quicker to go to law school then the path we have taken. No one says anything when a lawyer makes that much. Thats what pilots used to make with adjustments to inflation etc. Anyone that thinks a pilot should not easily attain the 6 figure mark is either management or a pilot that no one wants on their team. I know that some of you pilots out there think of this as a nice hobby. I dont. This is the way I make my living. I have yet to be compensated correctly for the time for schooling, amount education and responsiblity for this job. We are going to hit a brick wall someday and it will come down to is fighting for what we once thought was a good profession. Im ready to burn the house down. I am ready to lose my job permanently if needs be.

your jumpseater's bio/job

http://www.gwu.edu/~magazine/archive/2003_law_fall/docs/feat_eagles.html

“A broad legal education has helped her deal with the many issues her job presents. “Legal skills help me deal with everything in my job—labor, in terms of the Railway Labor Act; environmental, in terms of noise issues; ERISA and how it impacts defined-benefit pension plans; insurance; and congressional involvement,” she explains. “In government affairs, you deal with so many lawyers in Congress and the various agencies that being a lawyer and having a legal background are very important.”
Newman’s office, in Washington, D.C., also handles international laws issues, dealing with companies, rules, and regulations worldwide. The United States has bilateral agreements country by country, regarding who can fly there, how many airlines, how many flights, etc., and Newman’s office is responsible for those areas, which require complex contracts work. “

Sounds like you were dealing with another of those Ford & Harrison style lawyers, and played right into her hand by posting here and spreading her word...
For reference to tactics of these types used to shape public opinion:

Wow, with Steenland former anti-trust lawyer for the DOJ, and this chick having worked such a key role for Bush, and who knows who else, looks like they need a watchdog group monitoring this merger/ "acquisition"

Dear MSSSSSSS Whatever-your-three-part-neo-feminist-corporate-a$$-kissing-employee-f'ing-name-is:

The American pilots think YOU'RE going to get what you deserve after STEALING millions of dollars a year from the employees.

You can "justify" your bonuses and inflated salaries all you want but it is legalized theft. Employees and shareholders have been irreparably harmed in the past couple of decades.

I'm sure you DO like Lee Moak. Does ANYONE really want their MEC Chairman to be "liked" by management?

Very enlightening. Thanks for posting this. TC

Cannot be further from the truth. What could you possibly know about Lee?

Loose some weight and change your personality to optimistic and maybe Delta will give you a second chance. Before your envy completely destroyed you.

My bad! It's always a good idea to have a MEC Chairman that a member of management says that they "love." That way when they come and ask for more concessions, the fine folks of DALPA know that Moak will do what's in the best interest of the pilot group. No wait, he's a mgt stooge and will help put lipstick on the pig for you.

DALPA in incredibly weak, has NO teeth, and might as well be led by a mgt pilot.
