Highly doubtful. A merged Delta and Northwest would result in a "Delta Airlines."

Bye Bye--General Lee

I'd rethink that, Delta already screwed up all the European Routes they bought from PAN AM by putting the DELTA name on the side of airplanes. No one in Europe had a F***ing clue who Delta was, however European new Pan Am. Lufthansa laughed all the way to the bank on that one by picking up all those Passengers.

Should I mention the NEW Coke vs. Coke mess, single handedly almost ruined Coke.

What I'm getting at is if those NorthWest asian routes are so valuable, putting the Detla name on those jets would be a disaster...no-one in Asia know who Delata is...

TPG owns Spirit, in the process of buying Iberia (w/ British Airways help), and in the process of buying Midwest (w/ Northwest's help). They have in the past owned Continental (also with Northwest's help) and America West. Lots of bucks for the Texas Pacific Group.

TPG is run and created by David Bonderman, formerly a Frank Lorenzo cronie.....

Think about it. Why would they bypass the opportunity to eliminate most union groups on property as they may be able to do if DL is the purchaser. Look back at the DL/Western merger. Non-union groups at DL have generally been treated better than their union counterparts at other companies in the interest of keeping unions off property.

FWIW, I think Anderson would have a rattlesnake on his hands if he allowed a much larger DL to be purchased, especially after recently going out of his way to say DL will be in control of any merger. I personally think DL is looking elsewhere for a deal. Nothing would surprise me in this crazy industry though.

Ahh, the old shell game, the effect can be used to drive the share price up for a quick exti by those with an intere$t... "now you see it, now you don't"...

I always thought NWA would snatch up JetBlue because of its similar planes and their routes do not match up, so it would a win win for routes. Not to mention, the pay rates for both pilot groups are very low. And evn if you merge the seniority lists, Jet blue is so new that it would not effect the wide body guys at NWA. Which we all know is the most important factor when dealing with contract issues at NWA. Just my two cents, oh and thanks for the clerification on the earlier question.

...I think I just threw up a little bit in my mouth,....."eech!"

I am glad that is your opinion, but that is not the opinion of Richard Anderson here at Delta, and he probably knows more than you do about what is going on. But, you did use TPG to get rid of the Air Tran threat, which is good for you. If mergers do occur in the future, it may just include "pieces" of airlines, to get rid of the "political" and governmental roadblocks. Do you need GOV'T approval to buy some planes or routes from another airline? Maybe, but not as much oversight as a full merger. Tilton has hinted that he may be willing to sell parts of United (like the Asian routes), and maybe that is what is in our future. If Northwest is there instead of the UAL Pacific routes, I would think NWA employees would rather have DL management since no one anywhere likes the NWA management. It just makes sense.

General,

I hate to disagree,...but it's all about big $ for the power players, u r not dealing with "pig farmers" anymore.

These guys are running the industry, and like a camel, once they get their head in your tent,....well you know...

Research TPG and the other investment banker firms that are the major shareholders at NWA. You will see a lot of the same names on eachothers BOD and companies. David Bonderman is a Snake from the Frank Lorenzo days. He is most likely the biggest player in the industry.

W'eve seen our past CEO, Dasburg leave and go to "Burger King", only to take it private and sell it to Bonderman's TPG and a few other NWA BOD members. He's now at DHL.

Anderson's arrival at DAL is calculated, and he is there for a job. "the camel with his head in your tent".

Yeah, I know he has said that DAL will be the purchaser, but that can be a ploy to drive up the share price for a few to take a quick and profitable exit, like "Bank of America" ( would'nt want to make enemies with those guy's)....

Without getting winded, ....just wait 'till you see the rest of the camel......!

Says ME? Huh? A lot more people in the know think DL would be the acquirer. I haven't seen any articles or anything in the press saying Northwest is looking to be "the aquirer" of anything. Our DL CFO just stated at a conference that we have "acquistions on our front burner", and Richard Anderson stated "we will be the aqurier." If you want to GUESS otherwise, go ahead, but show me some written proof to back up your statements. Not everything in writing means it will be true, but you have to have more to back up your statements than blind faith. Give me something, come on. And, I never said Anderson will be our "savior", but he so far is certainly better and more of an airline guy than Leo Mullin. And, he has guys working for him now that are very good at what they do. We'll see, and hopefully you will back up your statements.

Proof General,

In 1986 when "Checci" and "Wilson" LBO'd NWA there was no warning. Everyone was looking at Pan Am, American, 'cause that was what was in the media.

Al Checci and Gary Wilson came out of nowhere and carefully performed an LBO labotomy on the asset laiden NWA.

"hope you like camels !"

I don't know why all of you are getting so worked up. You should all sleep very well at night knowing my henchmen are in charge of your future.

Did someone say something about busting up an airline and selling it off in pieces? I'm becoming aroused!

Jetflier - you got that one right - whatever happens it will not be the one everyone is looking at.

If they merge, everything will be northwest, but delta will be painted on the side of all the planes.

so be bought by one Lorenzo cronie or the other, JL and the ex-Eastern gang at AAI, that's what lovely decision we faced.

and actually bonderman did hire bethune (he didn't get along with him but still hired him) at continental.

besides i thought bonderman took over continental as an outsider (w/ NWA through Air Partners) once lorenzo was forced out? what is this relationship you speak of?

They may be the same planes, but NWA has GEs and JBLU has IAE engines. Some differences in the cockpit, but the engines are totally different animals. Now, their Compass group can have all of our E-190s if they'd like.

Uh, dude, I am pretty sure you will not be in the picture even as a 320 Captain.

Nobody knew who Air Canada was either when they bought the routes from Canadian, but it has worked out well for them. I think It will all work out, thanks to the Internet. And, look at Delta now with the European routes. We are the largest airline flying across the Atlantic from NY. Wow, it turned out just fine. RELAX, it won't hurt a bit....

Sure, except for all of the Northwest DC9s being parked, some more of their A319s, and the headquarters remaining in ATL and going away in Minni. Yeah, other than all that, you could be right, except that we have more airplanes and employees....Sure, you could be right????
