I just read where NWA is recalling 40 pilots by May. Not really big news, but got me thinking. Is there a website that has accurate stats on total number of pilots on furlough? Please post a link if you know of one. Thanks!

I do not know of any websites that list the total number of furloughed guys out there right now. But I do know the associated union websites for each carrier would have that info, but if you are not a member you cannot access it so it doesn't help you that much, sorry.

From what I understand there are about 11,000 furloughed pilots out there right now. The following list is a list as to the best of my recollection of the current furlough numbers at the big six. The only one I know is correct is United.

United 2172
American 2450 (as of 3-2004)
USAir 1870
Continental 650
Northwest 950
Delta 1000

The rest of the furloughs are scattered among the regional and national level. It appears as if the furloughs are coming to an end as United furloughed it's last batch earlier this month. I am not sure if American is finished after March or not. The others are finished furloughing. It will take years to get everyone back.

Never mind the backlash that this has had on the small 135 charter ops and other flying jobs.

My guess is that there are a whole bunch more than just the 11,000

It's on alpa.org's website (for alpa carriers), but you can only get access if you're an ALPA member.

Here's what they've got (it probably won't look right due to it being in spreadsheet format):
