Northwest pilots OK one-year contract extension

CHICAGO, June 4 (Reuters) - Northwest Airlines Corp. (NasdaqNM:NWAC - News) pilots have ratified a one-year extension of their contract with the No. 4 U.S. air carrier to September 2003, pilots union representatives said on Tuesday.

The pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, reached a tentative agreement with Minneapolis-based Northwest in April that includes a 4.5 percent pay raise on Sept. 13 and a pay raise of 5.5 percent on Sept. 12, 2003, a day before the agreement now becomes amendable.

About 87 percent of pilots casting ballots favored the extension and 13 percent opposed it, ALPA spokesman Will Holman said. About 82.5 percent of eligible pilots cast ballots.

Contract talks between the pilots and Northwest are set to start in January for the next contract, with a goal of reaching a deal before the current agreement becomes amendable.
Nice to see some airlines are still enjoying good labor relations with their pilots

Sounds like a good place to work and they seem to be in the best position to weather the storm.
