Makes NWA the largest US Airbus operator and the second largest in the world.

No more details of when they will come or what the plans are for thier use.

But, what other legacy carrier is out there placing orders?
 
I heard a rumour from a mesaba guy that NWA wants to bring the pilots back to the giving table. Is this true? If so NWA is following CAL's bait and hook method of concessionary negotiating.
 
If I'm not mistaken, a good chunk of that order is going to replace DC-10's. I don't think there is going to be much of an increase in the number of airframes.
 
Those 8 A330s will replace the trans-atlantic DC-10 fleet. They will keep DC-10s doing HNL for awhile, but the trans-atlantic ones will be directly replaced by the new A330s.

Will probably be going to ACSC next year and will then be looking for EAD tours after that although I should be recalled in June. From what you guys are telling me, it sounds like I'm better off just suckin' the gov't teat.

I think you are right, it is a mix of 330s some for Pacific some for Europe.
Mostly to park the DC-10s. Also 2 747-200s are being converted to
cargo config.

Sorry, wasn't paying attention...how did this go down exactly?
 
My old man is a "10" driver for NWA. All of the 10's are going to be replaced 1-for-1 with the A330s, and with the advanced delivery schedule, they are looking to have all of the 10's parked by the end of 2007.

Nah probably nothing. Just had a Mesaba pilot ride Js a week ago and mentioned NWA wants to take the pilots back to the concession table because they did not get what they wanted...Thats just what I had heard this guy say... I feel reckless for posting it here but I figured the guy was pretty genuine..perhaps not..

The last contract was being called a bridge agreement and is only good for two years. My understanding is the company needed something right away to show creditors so they could refinance about a billion dollars of short term debt into long term. The union gave them what they needed. The pilots went first and once the company deals with all of the other unions we'll be back in-the-barrel.

The hope was in two years the industry (and NWA) would be in better shape. But I've read in the MSP papers several times that our CEO will be coming back for another round of cuts. They would like our pay/work rules to mirror United.....funny how this was a bad idea a few years ago when the union wanted our pay/work rules to mirror Unions industry leading contract.

Always a bad idea going up, always the ONLY solution on the way down. That's their idea of good faith.:rolleyes:
 
The cost of the order was about $1 Billion about exactly what management wants in concessions from employees. Coincidence?

Also great article in NWA "Passages" about how NWA and UAL payrates have mirrored each other for 40 years. I guess they forgot about the years from Summer of 2000 till United took concessions. Don't think pilot rates at NWA "mirrored" United those years.
