I think it's entirely possible that you may have missed these stories. Most don't go beyond the local paper and the airlines involved usually keep it in house. I have first hand experience with this.
I'd be pretty interested in hearing about these cases of assault.
There are reasons why Captains routinely check the rooms for their Flight Attendants. There have been instances of nut cases hiding under beds waiting for the crew member to get to the room. We were escorted to the rooms with armed guards after that event.
Not to mention the fact that I've met Americans who thought they needed a passport to travel to Alaska and wondered what currency we use here.

Nah. The more I think about it, the more I'm pretty sure crews are safe in downtown ANC or FAI.
Perhaps, but I prefer to ask that you be more descrete since you are not part of the crew. If they make the choice to reveal that information, that's their option. But, I'm pretty sure they would like to keep that option, and not give it to you to exercise for them.
