Northwest, Delta pilots reach integration deal: report

Tue Feb 19, 2008 10:14am EST
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Leaders of the union that represents pilots at Delta Air Lines (DAL.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and Northwest Airlines (NWA.N: Quote, Profile, Research) have reached a deal to integrate the two work groups if the airlines merge, the Detroit News reported on Tuesday.
If the pilots have a deal, it would remove a major hurdle on the road to a merger that would create the world's largest airline. Representatives of the two groups did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
Members of the unions, however, would have to vote on any proposed integration plan.
The paper, which attributed the information to "sources close to the matter," said the agreement between the two units of the Air Line Pilots Association sets the terms for the combination of the pilots' seniority lists, which is integral to nearly ever aspect of a pilot's career.
Pilots are considered key to any successful merger and unions at both airlines, representing a combined 11,000 pilots, have said they would not be rushed. They both have said there would be no consolidation without their input.
There have been reports that a Delta/Northwest merger bid could be announced as early as this week.

Read the time stamp on this post. Then read this: There is no deal on the seniority list. Still talking.

No list...no goodies.

How the Corp Boards choose to proceed is up to them, but the two pilot groups don't have a list yet.
