Is NWA looking to replace their 757s at all or is the plan to run these for 20 more years much like the DC10s?

I don't think that NWA is looking to replace any of their planes except the DC-9 but thats already a done deal.

As for their 757's what equipment would NWA replace the 757 with? Besides the 737-800/900 there is no plane out there that can fill the 757's transcon role. And NWA doesn't pilot 737's.

So again I say no sale.

Hey Power,

One thing is common at NWA,.........."never say never".

NWA is always looking for a good deal on aircraft, that explains our love for the Airbus aircraft. But with the new Boeing deal on 787's comming in 2008 you never know what surprises they got in store ....

They just made the highest operating profit during the last quarter, from what I 'm told..... and that was before the new crappy contract was even agreed to! So they will be doing even better financially, on our monie$, and will have to begin spending the extra cash on the airline.

My guess is that they will be looking for an aircraft that will do what the 757-300 does, because they tried to get Boeing to build more of them after the last delivery , and Boeing had planned to use the facility for the 787, so NWA wasn't able to get more than the 16 it had ordered.

I'd guess that NWA will be looking at all airframes with a good deal attached to it, I only hope its a Boeing.

NWA is a financial institution(not an airline) that brokers airplanes and employees, they are always vicious with money and looking for the best deal; so anything could happen. They may not even replace the dc-9's anytime soon.

57 range and endurance

Don't forget the planned winglets on the 757-200's later this year for DTW-Europe ala CAL.

Does anyone know the range or endurance of a 757-200 and -300 without and with the winglets? How much endurance do they add, and is it all efficiency gain, or is there additional fuel capacity with the winglet mod?

OK, Just a rough gouge on the range of the 757.

About 4500 mi on a full tank. The winglets are rumored to be a range increase of 2-5%...

I previously heard our 757 gurus comment that DTW-EHAM was possible, however the westbound leg would be impossible with a significant headwind as during the winter.

The winglets give the ability to allow the westbound leg. But there would not be a large comfort margin for bad weather.

NWA would like the 757 to go to europe from DTW, and thats where the range hits its limits.

If NWA could get an RJ to go DTW-EHAM, we'll you know the rest.......

It's bad enough flying on Northwest as it is with extremely nasty gate agents and flight attendants. Now you have to add being stuck in a narrow body over the pond. Those nasty old fa's will probably be killed by the pax when they arrive in Europe. The pax might actually spare the flamer fa's, at least the non b.itchy ones.
