This must be a load of crap, but there have been the rumors of a buyer for the 717s. I doubt AMR could even afford them...hopefully!​

Here's your bridge for sale....

....AMR divests from AE. SWA and AAI merge. AMR and SWA merge, SWA covers the domestic, with some Mexico destinations. AA concentrates on the international operation. The AT side of the new SWA covers the the RJ cities with the B717 and resolves the 100-seat dilema between mainline and the commuter.

Although, this does not explain the Jet Blue connection with AA.

Whatever scenario seems less likely, sometimes happens.
