(KSDK) - A Learjet which had landing gear problems after taking off from Sprit of St. Louis airport around 8:00 a.m. this morning made a safe emergency landing at Lambert Airport.

According to Dave Nichols, from the Monarch Fire District, the plane was loaded with an hour and a half of fuel and had to burn off that fuel before it could attempt an emergency landing.

Nichols explained that when the plane took off, the front landing gear would not retract. The plane did a fly by over the control tower for a visual inspection. The nose gear appeared to be turned to the left. The pilot it could be locked into place, but would not retract.

The plane had nine people on board, including the crew. The plane is a FlexJet Learjet 45.

Emergency crews stood by at Lambert for the arrival of the plane. The pilot landed gingerly and dropped the nose after the plane had slowed significantly. The nose gear held and the plane made a safe landing.

It is not known at this time where the plane was headed when it took off or who the passengers were on board.

Late Tuesday in Boston, a jetliner with a landing gear problem touched down safely at Logan International after circling the airport for about two hours. Midwest Airlines Flight 210 had 86 passengers and four crew members on board.

Carol Skornicka, a spokeswoman for Milwaukee-based Midwest, said the pilot noticed a problem with the right landing gear shortly after takeoff. The plane was bound for Milwaukee.

And in September, a JetBlue plane landed safely in Los Angeles amid smoke and sparks. That aircraft's front wheels had become stuck in a sideways position.

Now we are in the news! Who is next?

Tex.

Geez, this is like the gazillionth landing gear problem thats made the news lately. Everything from a KA 100 to a 747. Bizarre, but boy the news talking heads are loving it.

Nice job Flex pilots.

My only thought would be I don't think I would taxi after that, I saw someone land after a gear problem, everything worked out great on the roll-out but then they turned and the gear collapsed.

Nice landing!!!

Great video and good job by the crew. Cool under pressure... Too bad they don't have a union - they DESERVE higher wages....

Ive seen and heard of a couple times when a plane landed with a gear prob OK only to have it collapse on the turn to the taxiway. Something to keep in mind in the future.

not a possibility with this kind of failure, but we appreciate the thought.
