As it stands right now, 50% of the NWA pilots are over the age of 50...for a NWA new hire that is a very big reason to join on. If there was a Delta/NWA merger, that would be lost. Is the merger a good thing for the NWA new hire?

OK, as far as quick advancement I was mainly speaking to the Delta new hire. I think the NWA new hire would benefit in the long run however since the new company would have a much better chance of long term stability and profitability which could translate into good pay raises and being part of a company that will be around your whole career (never any guarantees of course). Delta is also growing into other parts of the world so international growth would be better with a Delta managment team in my opinion. Hope that helps.

Huh?

NWA has 32 A330's, with NONE on order. Good news: You're half right. Bad news: 50% is a "F".

NWA has 162 Arbii in service. NWA also has 203 non-Arbii in service. So unless your definition of "nearly all" is 44%...you're waaaaaay off the sheet.

Perhaps I need to qualify my previous statements.
NWA currently has 32 A330s. With 32 more on order to be delivered in 2008-09.

And though it is very true that NWA has lotsa 9s and other US built aircraft, the majority of deliveries in the last 15 years have been built by the French.

So, to get back on point- this could be a sticking point trying to merge fleets with DAL.

Oh yeah, I want to know which colors win out in the merger.

You're opinions are fine...but you're basing them on facts that are WRONG.

WRONG...as in "incorrect, bad, in error, not true, inaccurate, bogus"

NWA currently has 32 A330s. With 32 more on order to be delivered in 2008-09.

NWA has ZERO (nil, none, 0, not-a-one) A330's on order.

Repeat: NWA has no A330 aircraft on order, or as an option for order.

The only firm orders NWA holds right now are for B787's. (The "B" stands or "Boeing"...not Airbus)

And though it is very true that NWA has lotsa 9s and other US built aircraft, the majority of deliveries in the last 15 years have been built by the French.

Barely. How many B757 (-200 and -300), and B747-400 aircraft have we purchased since 1992? And don't forget to add the 2 SwissAir B747-300's we bought in 1996, and the 8 DC-9's we bought in 1993.

You're jabbering without a script here. Get some facts, then try to use them to support your "incompatibility" argument. Else you are wasting bandwidth.

You need to re-read Occam's post. NWA has all of the A330's we are getting (unless a future purchase happens). We have 32 on property with NO MORE OPTIONS, which means we will only have 32 A330's at NWA (not 64).

Now, we currently have 18 B787 a/c on order with 50 options.

OK OK. I read a bullet on Airline Pilot Central that said NWA had 32 A330s on order. I assumed they were in addition to the 32 in the fleet - not old news.

It sounds like you're dying to hear these words, and I'm more than happy to oblige:

You're right.

Now back to business. Are they gunna paint all those airplanes tails red or blue?

Did it also say we have more Arbii than Boeing/Douglas...or was that your's? "nearly all" is what you posted.

I know that.

Now back to business. Are they gunna paint all those airplanes tails red or blue?

What did Airline Pilot Central predict? If you read it there...it's GOTTA be true!

Come on Occam, we all know this is the FIRST time you've heard this! I thought you'd be more gracious!

1. You're right!
2. From my wife or kids?...never!
3. "GIGO" is the acronym that comes to mind.
4. I know. Now drink 3 Foster's so we can type on an even footing.
5. I had to repeat "Kill" during my Marine Corps training...so I missed most of "Gracious".
6. Have the Committee cancel my Nobel for Gracious.

I'm not so convinced. To John Q. Public, DAL is the bigger, (and therefore better/healthier) airline. I understand that NWA might have more cash on hand for an acquistion, but do you think that the powers that be may take on the Delta name as it has more brand recognition.

Case in point: SBC buys AT&T and assumes the AT&T name for brand recognition.

Now back to business. Are they gunna paint all those airplanes tails red or blue?

Red Tails, because in Asia, Red is the color of good fortune.

When The General calls his senator to complain that he thinks the leather jacket option at NWA is unprofessional, NWA's resident congress critter (Oberstar, chairman of the house transportation committee) will be forced to mud wrestle Lott in a cage tornement at the Mall of America.

In the resulting seniority merger, he will be forced to fly with senior NWA guys who've been widebody captains since they rolled the tractor up off the farm when they were 23, and are thus the only people on the planet more uptight than he is.

Karma can be a bitch...

It probably won't matter since the merger talks are about United and Delta. And in that case the UNITED name will stay. NW should go hook up with LCC

Heh, I thought United was an LCC now...What ever happened to (Far) Ted?

In any event, if UA/DL does happen, I would expect NWA/CAL to happen. No way would they let their marketing agreement/codeshare with CAL go to AA, and since NW has the final word about what happens with CAL, I suspect that's the way it will go.

IMHO, CAL is a better fit for NW anyway, and they've been working together for years.
