56 an hour is first year pay....... not bad if you ask me!
Maybe you can name me another 2 or 3 airlines that start you at 56 an hour, full FREE health and dental 401k...etc etc

And yes Captains make over 100G a year Some have made it to the 170+ level. Not great but the "Majors" are rapidly closing the gap!

no, that is why the industry is in a "Race for the Bottom". People willing to fly for 40 something an hour....just for the sake of flying. Someday when you are a Captain and your trying to negotiate a contract for 300 something, your company will say "Why should I pay that when Capts at XXX Airlines get paid 120/hr for flying the same jet"

That's why I wanted to know what the rates were after the first year and for Capt.

Here are our pay rates. They're not that high, so go ahead and tell us how we're making the industry go to the bottom. We're currently in negotiations to get to your high levels and standards, but the company is not cooperating. I guess your next solution is that we all walk out.
I don't know many people here who fly for what we make "just for the sake of flying." Everyone that I know does it because no money = no food and shelter.

Believe it or not, I'm a strong advocate of getting our work rules and pay up to the industry standards, but that has to be done through negotiations. We're newly unionized and working on our first contract. That makes a huge difference. I have no idea where you work, but if it's so great that you can sling mud at us, then that means that you have had contracts before that were used as stepping stones.

$99 one-way fares out of OAK to Hawaii is just too low. Hope you guys don't end up subsidizing them by crappy pay/work rules in your contract.

Please tell me exactly who is holding up the "bar"? Don't give NAA pilots crap for their current wages when it's obvious that NONE of us WANT to work for anything less than top dollar.

Freight Dog--Prior to 9/11 some could have accused Aloha of lowering the bar. Please let's none of us get high and mighty--particularly in this period in aviation history.

why is everyone so money hungry? why can't people stop b**ching about money and be happy they have a job....even at 50 an hour i would be happy on a 75 or 76. that's what really makes this industry suck...pilots saying they dont make 150,000 a yr.....stop b**ching.
There you have it folks, exhibit "A"...

We now rejoin our regularly scheduled program, The Olympic Wage and Workrules Limbo (How low can you go?) Team Trials, already in progress...

While I agree that none of us should get high and mighty, Aloha pilots are and have always been the highest paid regional airline pilots in the nation, to the best of my knowledge.

If flying 30 minute legs a maximum of 200 miles away isn't regional, then I don't know what is.

Nobody is holding up the "bar" and that's the problem. Charging $99 each way for HNL is REALLY going low. Who do you think will end up paying for those? Someone's got to.

Now, I am really curious about how Aloha was lowering the bar prior to 9/11.

This argument can go around in circles. Isn't considering yourselves a "regional airline" lowering the bar for other 737 pilots? Semantics is for the lawyers.

Would you consider AA and USAir pilots holders of the bar? I do. Guess what? We have them flying for us. In fact, we have many furloughed pilots with us. All of whom are great guys, many of which you considered holders of the bar.

Those of you who want to look down on any pilot who flies for less... What did you personally do to raise the bar? Getting hired at a premium carrier doesn't count because you're basically riding on someone's coat tail. Management sets the bar and pilots try to raise it. Airlines that have reasonable management get raises. Airlines that have antagonistic management have pilots who have to fight for every dime. As we're discovering more and more every day, NAA management is like old AMR. The difference is that we don't have a contract to hide behind. Many here will most likely leave, but while we're here, we're going to work for improvements.

Comments from the minor leagues

That's like saying baseballs players in the Major Leagues should take pay cuts because the players in the minors make less.

Captboy...I'm guessing you're 25ish. We all thought that back then. Just wait until you're married and you have kids. Your tune will change. But you want to know when it will really change, when you spend a couple of months busting your A$$ getting a real type rating and then having to defend that type rating every six months.

Agree.

Nobody that has not been up and down in this business should talk about the bar.

I know ex Pan-Am and Eastern Captains that came over to the Middle East and signed any contract they could 'cause the mortgage company did not want to hear about the bar or any other excuse for not paying bills.

Most of us started (as least the civilians) flying crap for crap money just to
1) Fly
2) Make money
3) Log hours and step up to the next level.

When the gravy train is running full speed one can jump to the next level, and the next and finally sit in the sun making good good dough flying good planes on good routes.

Then the train stops and the bills are still rolling in.

What is a guy to do?

Stay away from 3rd level carriers with junk pay, junk planes and junk Q.O.L just to keep the "Bar" up?

Or go out and do whatever 'till the economy picks back up and the gravy train leaves the staion once again?

(not saying that NAA is a 3rd rate carrier, but there is some "outfits" out there that would qualify..At least paywise...Turned down a job offer from Air Atlanta today...Not going to fly left seat on a 747 for $5K per month...But if I get hungry enough in the future I may..If somebody on this board has a problem with that, just send yer donation over to the CSY Mon's mortgage fund, or shut up.)
