...this weekend, unless on a flight plan, ATC control and have a transponder. Anyone know more about this bull$hit!?

If things are so dangerous for the president, maybe he shouldn't be travelling so much?! If it's the typical presidential TFR, won't be allowed to fly my 75-mph, 980-lb Cub.

quite possibly loosing more freedom this weekend... This sure will inconvenience the bad guys. Oh!! The bad guys don't respect the law anyway! Maybe they should put some signs up at all airports... "It's a federal crime to use an aircraft committing any crime, including acts of terrorism!" That'll help stop them, along with the TFRs.

A special notice to AOPA members in Texas

FAA ACTIVATES LARGE TFR OVER BUSH RANCH
AOPA is sending this message to advise pilots flying in the area between
Dallas/Fort Worth and Austin, Texas, that the area surrounding President
Bush's Crawford ranch, Prohibited Area P-49, will be expanding. The
temporary flight restriction (TFR) extends to a 30-nm radius below 18,000
feet msl, beginning at 9:45 p.m. local today, July 17, and continues through
2 p.m. local on Monday, July 21.
The Crawford TFR will remain in effect even during the times the president
visits Dallas on July 18 and Houston on July 19. AOPA expects the FAA to
issue notams soon establishing 30-nm presidential TFRs around both cities.

AOPA is stepping up efforts to eliminate large presidential movement TFRs
that unnecessarily restrict general aviation operations. As part of this
effort, we want to hear from you about any operational problems you
experience as a result of President Bush's visit to your area. Fill out the
form on AOPA Online ( https://www.aopa.org/forms1/dc_adiz.cfm ).
All operations (except military, law enforcement, and air ambulance) are
prohibited within 10 nm below 18,000 feet. Between 10 nm and 30 nm, aircraft
must be on an active IFR or VFR flight plan with a discrete transponder code
assigned by air traffic control and must maintain radio contact with ATC.
All such flights must be for ingress, egress, or transit only. During the
effective times of the notam, practice instrument approaches are prohibited
within the TFR. No flight training, aerobatic, glider, parachute, hang
gliding, ultralight, aerial application, or animal control operations are
permitted.
The impacted landing facilities are Valley Mills Municipal (9F1), Wildcat
Canyon (3T8), McGregor Executive (PWG), Clifton Municipal/Isenhower Field
(7F7), Waco Regional (ACT), City-County (05F), Lake Whitney State Park
(F50), TSTC Waco (CNW), Draughon-Miller Central Texas Regional (TPL), and
Wings for Christ International Flight Academy (73F).
AOPA warns pilots that this restricted airspace will be actively enforced by
the military, and violators will be intercepted and forced to land. Because
TFR airspace is subject to change, AOPA reminds pilots to check notams prior
to every flight.

Fly, I feel your pain, but...

Being from Dallas, the Crawford TFR affects me frequently everytime I make burger runs to the south. Besides, there is nothing new about a restricted area around the President & Vice President.

Just check notams....

It is unlikely that you will be impacted any more than normal - its not like you frequently trasit the IAH class B all that often in your cub, right?
 
President Shrub is coming to visit a YMCA in Dallas this weekend. Don't know what he's doing in Houston.

Gotta be careful around here. Twice I have unexpectedly had to circumnavigate the 30 nm ring around Crawford because I forgot to file the flight plan. And this is for a 135 scheduled flight that goes through every night. The contollers know me by name and still wouldn't let me through with flight following. My fault though, now I know to check the notams.

Yea, you're generally right. and P-49 get's me too when headed up toward Ft Worth.

As for the Hou B, I fly under it regularly. Just don't fly through it often. This TFR will ground me without an electrical system (xpdr). Makes a big diff where the center of the TFR is defined. IAH - no effect for me. HOU or EFD - I'm grounded. will have to see what comes up.
