I just paid off my student loans, and can afford to go to the airlines. Over the past 2 weeks I've applied Compass, Republic, Mesaba, and SkyWest, and haven't heard a peep from anyone. I'm starting to wonder if something is wrong with me. I've heard of guys getting a call within a day of sending their app in, which makes me wonder what's going on.

No DUIs, 2 speeding tickets in 7 years, ATP, 2 types, 3600tt, 25 years old, 2 years of college and pursuing a degree online. Not perfect, but I didn't think that I was that bad of a catch for a regional.

Is it me or the economy? Do I dare bother HR?

There is little growth and no real attrition due to the majors' hiring freeze (ie. no place for us to go). Obvioulsy no retirements at the regional level. The party is once again over for a while.

3600tt at 25 years old? Whoa!

Started flying when I was 15. I was LUCKY enough to have a dad that had a plane. Then went to fly freight and built time fast.

Aside from the lack of CRM and modern equipment, freight flying is a great career booster.

Paying off your student loans BEFORE taking a $20,000 a year job... what a novel idea! You are too smart for the regionals my friend. That is the problem.

Bingo ... you are overqualified for a regional. And most have drastically reduced hiring.

Go to a fractional, I know everybody and their mother is trying to get on with Netjets, but you can try some of the others that might not have that long of a waiting list. Don't waste your time at a regional with your experience!

no reason to go to a regional with your experience. Go earn a real paycheck. Have you tried Citation Shares?

Dude its only been two weeks, relax.

Keep trying...

Try Republic again. They are still hiring.

I just trained two guys with approximately 1000 TT and 100 multi, no other ratings more than flight instructors.

We're getting a lot of Mesa guys, too.

When I was trying to get a job I had over 2000 total, jet time, 135 experience etc...and never got a call for months. Finally I had a friend walk my stuff in and they called the next day. Be patient and try to find some buddies to help you out.

I heard Eagle is still hiring anyone with a pulse, but seriously you should look elsewhere the regionals are no good.

Two Weeks!!! ZOMG!11!! OhTehNoes!! Stop the Presses,You're clearly unhireable.

Seriously, I spent almost three years sending out resumes and applications across the industry before I got my first interview - at Great Lakes, where my app had been in for the previous 7 months.

On my most recent application binge, last spring, I pushed about 25 apps/resumes, and it took about month and a half before the calls started coming in.

Patience.

The regionals like retards, smart people won't allow themselves to be pushed around.

I have to agree with the other posters that not hearing anything for two weeks doesn't really mean anything. You are very experienced and beyond competetive; but the airlines that you applied at all have big shiney jets. With your experience you've certainly earned the right to be there. However, if for some reason you're not getting any bites then expand your options a little bit. Just stay away from training contracts. Just because you get hired somewhere doesn't mean you are stuck there. Take a job offer, get some 121 time, and keep applying to your first choices until you get a bite.

Someone had mentioned Eagle. While it certainly has its problems, I've been here six months and happier than can be. It fits my life well ESPECIALLY being able to live in base. When I applied I got an interview offer less than 24hours later, was at the interview a week later and class about 3 weeks after that. The ONLY reason it took that long for me to go to class was by my personal choice. I passed on the first upcoming class date for personal reasons. It would have been possible to go from app to class in two weeks. The point of my rant is that they are still hiring like crazy. Apply and I'm sure you'll get an e-mail for an interview. If you get the job (can you breath?) it doesn't mean you have to stay. Get some time and move on.

Long story short. Don't settle on only your target airlines if they're not biting. Certainly keep them in your sites, just try a different strategy to get there.
