They were looking at not allowing jump seating as crew rest time to prevent this very situation. But it did not get much support.
Yup. It shows full well the FAA knows exactly what is going on. I'm afraid the FAA is going to go with "promoting the industry" over "ensureing safety" on this NPRM.

Commuting is a very thorny issue to get into with regards to privacy rights, but it comes down to dollars. Pilots would be perfectly willing to commute in the day before and get real rest in a hotel if there were a duty rig that paid them 6 hours for the commute day and the company provided the hotel. What are the chances of that ever happening? There are solutions, but they're not cheap.
 
If CAL is so bad to work at then why are FATIGUE calls so low? Management does not see the issue when no calls are reported.

Post some schedules. Then tell us whether or not it was assigned or you volunteered. And if it is assigned what you plan to do about addressing the issue. If there is a problem masking it with SCAB attitudes will not solve it.

Call in sick, get paid. Call in FTG, no pay. You have to go beg the cp for sick bank to cover it.
iAH cp is on the record recommending pilots just call in sick. So, FTG goes undocumented in most cases
