I had assumed the major networks might have an hour or two of specials devoted to the 100th anniversary, maybe hosted by the major news anchors. I should have known better... there is nothing.

Discovery and Discovery Wings have shows but anyone know of anything else? Bush is supposed to announce plans to return to the moon on the 17th also.

Very disappointing...

Why would any news medium want to show a program about how whiny overpaid airline pilots got their industry started?

Little late or to early depending on how you look at it, but on CNN right now is a program dedicated to flight. It in the past 30 minutes has covered a large portion of aviation. The program is Next @ CNN. Hopefully they'll repeat it.

Being a pilot went from being the most respected profession to one of the least respected. Not to mention most "taken advantage of", "least understood", etc.
It just pis$es me off every time I think about it.

Yes, and if I EVER hear another F/A b!tch about how thier job is SOOOOOO much harder than ours, I may walk into a prop.....

Remember, we're just glorified button pushing monkeys!

I think thats a bit of an overreaction. Maybe not understood, but certainly not one of the least respected professions.

Well it is! You open up 100 cans a joke a day and see how you feel. JUST KIDDING DUDE, had to pull your chain a little

Unbelievable . . . .

I noticed that, too, to my chagrin. Very surprising.

I won't accept "esoterica" as an excuse. Everyone knows airplanes, even those who'd rather watch Trista and Ryan's Wedding.

I knew it wasn't a big enough deal that they would disturb the whole night of programming, but I figured an hour special hosted by the major anchor, ala the Kennedy Killing would surely be offered. I sure was wrong! :(

Speaking of the kennedy's, I just flew the senator around today.

It is the new culture that we live in. Doctors are losing respect as well. People would rather sue for millions so they can say "I got mine" depsite the fact thier jacking up malpractice insurance so high that docotrs are quitting. You want a million dollars or quality healthcare??

It's all about the money. We don't want quality we want MORE! More stuff.... So in order to get more it has to be made in China. The US jobs go to China so we can have a mediocre DVD player in each room instead of one quality one. (BTW you need a TV for each DVD player...)

What the does this have to do with the pilot profession? People want cheap tickets. They want to go from LA to NY for $100.

The question is..how do we convince the public to spend $125-150 so we can get more of that ticket price into our paychecks?

Anyone?

WRAL tv chan 5 and sister station chan 50 ( in same studio) in Raleigh NC is going to have some live stuff on the 17th. These stations are big on the web on with digital broadcasting- maybe there is some kind of feed you can get over the web.

Last night I caught an aviation special on CNBC called "The Power of Flight" It focused on the future of commercial aviation and was produced in Europe so it had an Airbus bias. I did enjoy the segment with David Neeleman when he was interviewed about jetBlue Airways and the future of low-cost airlines in North America. Unfortunately there was no mention of the Wright Bros.
