While I like what Rutan does, just going into low earth orbit makes Rutan's deal look like a trip around the patch in a J-3.

Not sure if there is a type for the STS, but i'd guess that if there is they would probably have to sign a training contract. <joke> Is NASA PFT? Can you imagine?

I believe the Space Shuttle is still considered experimental flight and the commander is basically considered a test pilot. Most of the commanders and pilots were super test pilots in their military career, that's where they seem to be picked from.

I wonder how many hours in the sim it takes to be ready?
