Re: NMB Completes its Online Collection of Presidential Emergency Boards
Washington, D.C. -- The National Mediation Board (NMB) is pleased to announce that all published Presidential Emergency Board (PEB) reports have been posted in the NMB Knowledge Store and are available online to practitioners of the Railway Labor Act (RLA) and the general public.
Pursuant to the RLA, the NMB is an independent agency that performs a central role in facilitating harmonious labor-management relations. NMB programs provide an integrated dispute resolution process to effectively meet its statutory objective of minimizing work stoppages in the nation's airline and railroad industries.
The NMB Knowledge Store is a public information service established in July, 2005. It currently incorporates over 100,000 documents and is an ongoing effort to establish a searchable archive that includes PEB Reports, NMB Representation Determinations, NMB Annual Reports, Airline and Railroad Labor Contracts, and Arbitration Awards.
A Presidential Emergency Board is a Board established under the Railway Labor Act by the U.S. President to investigate and report on an airline or railroad labor dispute. PEB reports originate as paper publications issued by the White House. The NMB collection consists of all 242 electronic copies of those reports. For additional information on Presidential Emergency Boards see http://www.nmb.gov/mediation/pebmenu.html.
The Presidential Emergency Board collection is accessed via the Knowledge Store link on the NMB web site (www.nmb.gov). The “Full Record” option displays a searchable text version of each PEB report and the “Get File” option displays a scanned copy in PDF format.
For additional information, contact the NMB Public Information Line at 202 692-5050.
