Just a reminder,

Voting opens today.
Whatever you choose; Please Vote

A failure to vote, is a vote for no union.

Voting closes June 30th

Wrong. The agreement with the IBT eliminated that possibility of zero representation. The majority rules in this case-either IBT or NJASAP.

Pervis is correct. The agreement between IBT and NJASAP now precludes the possiblity of a "no union" result in voting. See the April 18 message from NJASAP, Capt. Dad.

This is what I received in my mail today.

The voting period during which NetJets crewmembers may choose to remain affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) or to affiliate with the NetJets Association of Shared Aircraft Pilots (NJASAP) officially opened earlier today, Monday, June 2. Voting will be conducted via telephone with BallotPoint Election Services serving as the Election Supervisor.

Local 1108 President Greg Rountree encourages each and every pilot to participate in this important referendum. “Whether you vote for NJASAP or the Teamsters,” Rountree said, “please take the time to vote. The National Mediation Board considers an individual union member’s failure to vote as a vote for no union affiliation.”

BallotPoint sent informational materials explaining the voting process to each crewmember’s address of record on Wednesday, May 28 (See Figure 1). The election period will conclude Monday, June 30, 2008; votes are scheduled to be tallied Tuesday, July 1; and the results will be finalized and announced later that same day.

Who do I believe? I just want the correct information sent to me. I could care less who is right or wrong, I just want the right information to be known. So which is it?

The vote is not being conducted by the NMB, and thus, the no vote does not apply. The vote is being conducted by IBT and NJASAP, and it was agreed that majority would be the winner. I suspect the info was not edited to conform to the agreement and was written fully expecting an NMB run representation election!

The situation has been discussed at length in my house...;) All posts above are correct. Here's why: An agreement such as the one between the IBT National, Local 1108, and NJASAP has never been done before--the NJA pilots are again breaking new ground. So if the NMB decided to poke their nose in the election they could potentially make the simple plan more complicated. So far so good; but I guess Tree just wants to be on the safe side by encouraging every pilot to vote, (always a good thing anyway) thus minimizing the chance the NMB will decide to throw their weight around.

The entire agreement is founded on professional courtesy/cooperation and a strong wish by the directors of NJASAP to begin controlling their own destiny sooner, as well as obtaining an amicable split that leaves the Options pilots in a financially strong position to set up their own Union office and conclude their contract negotiations. These are hectic times for my family so I forgot to keep holding my breath...;) But everything appears to be on track; my husband is working in CMH this week on transition projects. Those less trusting may find reassurance in the fact that the alternative of an ugly, well-publicized "divorce" is a strong motivator for Hoffa to carry through on his end of the deal.

Kudos to the Options MEC for their calm attitude and friendly cooperation in this joint venture. (Especially as it relates to the office). Remember that the NJASAP leaders have pledged their advice/assistance and are standing by should it be needed. My husband made a point of telling me that so do feel free to call upon him if he can be of help. Best Wishes! NJW

President Rountree is in error.

I guess the best thing to do is just take the time to vote so we don't inadvertently screw the pooch.

Just Vote!

Tree factually stated the policy of the NMB who does govern elections. Yes, there is an agreement that is different, but it is only allowed by approval of the NMB. That's why it's best not to take any chances. A high percentage of the membership voting will assure the NMB that it is indeed the will of the vast majority and there will be no need for them to interpret the wishes of the NJA pilots based on the election results. Furthermore, going independent is a big change and as such should be viewed as a serious matter that every NJA pilot (eligible) should want to vote on. As a reminder, the current NJASAP Directors are interim only; a leadership election will take place in the fall.

VOTE NJASAP FOR INDEPENDENCE AND A STRONGER UNION
