Do you want short legs or cross country legs. The XL is more pay, and you can't go for more than a little over 3 hours without stopping for fuel. From what I was told the 680 can take off at max gross weight from a 4000ft strip and fly across the country. Like the previous poster said, the 680 can carry a moving truck in the back. When we first got the 680's I was ferried home for almost 3 hours in one, very nice ride. Hope that helps a little.
XL. Bigger fleet, more lines and $3,600 more bones as a PIC and $2,700 more per year as an SIC just for going to work.
The Sovereign does have a bright future but it's still in a mode where the very junior and the very senior of big the plane. It's bound to fill in the gaps sometime soon and when it does it would be best to be ahead of the seniority bell curve lest you get shoved down.
680 is a NJA dream. Short field capability, and long legs. Nice cabin so when it covers for the X or Falcon the owners don't whine too much. Both fleets are working hard right now. As mentioned above, $300 for the differences on the XL.
The XL and XLS are considered to be different models. As such, pilots who are assigned to fly both the XL and XLS are paid an extra $300 (for PIC's) or an extra $225 (for SIC's). A similar situation exists for the Ultra and Encore, though the company is splitting those two fleets. When the fleets are finally completely split, that so-called "crossover" pay will end for those pilots currently qualified on both the Ultra and Encore.
