I was hoping a few of the NJA guys who were involved in getting a new union in place could answer some questions for me.

Specifically, what does it take to accomplish something like this? I currently work for a company who has a union that refuses to help us. I'd like to dump them and get some other union in place, but I don't know how to go about starting down this road.

Please Help!

If Alpa represents you... you're screwed.

No, 121.

Also, there are rumor floating around that if we dumped the union, we would have to operate without a union for a year and that our current contract would be void. I'm assuming the latter is true, but a year without representation?

ok i get it....

I am sure that someone in the know to answer your questions is reading this. Maybe they will respond to you.

I agree with the above ALPA statement.

ALPA... the new four letter word in aviation.

Trogdor - NetJets' pilots didn't get a "new" union. They've been part of IBT all along. After the pilots rejected a TA in October, 2004, a slate of leaders running as "Strong Union" (SU) were elected to take over from the previous leadership. One of the things that they did was break from the old local, 284, and form 1108 as a local solely for pilots.

If you're ALPA, it may be different for you but we seem to get little assistance from the Teamsters. As a result, 1108 has been able to get a lot accomplished even with the occasional encumberance from the Teamsters. I was under the Teamsters at my previous employer and what I see with 1108 makes it a night and day difference, almost like my old local and my new are part of completely different unions.

Good luck to you. Leadership and membership participation make all the difference in my experience.
