Hey, Man- I really appreciate you posting this info. It clears up many of the unknowns of this place. Thanks again and keep posting.

According to the FOM, there is standby at the airport, and standby away from the airport. We just follow the rules as crazy as they are often.

Is your FOM up to date? If so, scribble out any words that say 'standby'... the term no longer exists.

You can only be 2 things: On duty and off duty. You can be on duty at 4 different places: FBO, Hotel, Terminal, and home.

In the old days, If you were standby, you were not on duty and your showtime could be whenever. Reup your room, hang out, do whatever. If we needed you, we'd call. Be ready to go at a moment's notice.

Nowadays, if you show at the FBO and have nothing to do, technically you are not on standby... you are on duty. Big difference... You'll have a showtime, and eventually, you'll have a shutdown time. Once you get your shutdown time, that's it. We cannot call you under any circumstances after that shutdown time expires (unless in an 'emergency' situation).

Go ahead and file with "ExecJet" in the remarks section as a call sign, they may accept it.

I'm just crazy enough to try it...

Q: My first day out brief sucks! Can I change it?
A: Maybe. Again if you're not attached to a tail, we may be able to change your showtime. Call us the day before and we may be able to 'rebrief' you for something better.

I almost forgot... ask us if we can change your show location as well. Mmmm, show at home...

If you live within 1 hour of your gateway, then we can approve a show at home (it might be a half hour... it's written down somewhere... I'll check into it and get back). Again, you will be 'on duty' (not standby). This is to help keep you guys from sitting in a room with nothing to do all day. PLEASE call in the day before and ask us to approve it. I've done my share of sitting around... and I know how badly it sucks...

It's perfectly legal. How awesome is that? If crew services asks you 'how far are you from the gateway', please don't lie (I've been burned on it a couple of times by guys that say there 15 minutes away that are really 3 hours)... It takes us 2 seconds to find your driving time and distance in the computer since we have all addresses on file.

We will most likely approve a show at home if you are not assigned to any aircraft and/or don't have a partner... but have your bags packed just in case...

Remeber: When you're off duty, we cannot call you... but you can call us. Asking to change your showtime is a great communication tool. We can pair you up to replace someone who DNIF'd, or dump an airplane to you to pair up with someone we hadn't previously noticed.

If everyone did this, we would defiantly see a decrease in the number of sellofs. It may be small, but it would help. The more you guys communicate to us, the more efficent we will become... because like I said earlier... coming out with first day out showtimes isn't an exact science...

Again all, I really appriciate the number of questions you have privately sent me. I don't want you to feel like you're being left in the dark on a lot of these issues... Because I know many of you do. By all means, ask away! I'll do the best I can to answer them.

Do you have an FOM? You might want to flip to page A1-51 section A1-20.2 and brush up on company policy. There are two different types of standby, away from the airport, and at the airport. Our FOMs have to be up to date, the FEDs require it. If the FOM is wrong, maybe you can have "Just Gary" change it for us.

Ain't gonna happen until a contract is agreed to.

You are starting to sound like management

Try as you might to entice us to call in on our off time, won't happen. The pilots are more dedicated to getting a fair contract as I previously mentioned.

Spare me your BS dude. Who said anyone was pushing me around? If you would open your eyes and shut your cake hole for a few minutes, you would realize I was responding to one of his Q & A sessions about going to Canada and calling CANPASS 2 hours in advance. Trying to point out that often it can't be done the way things are scheduled and then you get the ETD pages after explaining it over the phone. By the way, who the Fk are you to tell me to act like a captain, worry about yourself.

You're pretty bitter and pissed off. How's that working out for you? BTW, have a nice day.

About the same as it is for you, only slightly better. You have a nice day too.
