Hey all, I just found this site. It looks very well organized. I've spent alot of time on car message boards such as thirdgen.org and nethirdgen.org [gotta love those F-bodies :)]
Anyway, i'm a 20 year old Aviation major at Averett University in Danville, VA. I'm not expecting anyone to be familiar with this name. I've got roughly 220 total hours and my Private Pilot license with the Instrument rating, in ASEL. I'm currently in the position of transferring out of this school, finishing my commercial rating at either ATP in Richmond, VA or at FlightSafety. I plan on becoming a CFI and obtaining the license through FlightSafety over the summer.

Welcome aboard! This message board can be very educational, used correctly.

Averett....man what to say.
Basically this school is a disappointing experience. I came in with my private pilot license so I have somewhat of a comparison as to how part 61 Flight schools get things done. Last year I got screwed on flight, I worked from September until August 8 of this year to get my instrument rating, with over 100 hours of flight time. I wasn’t a unique case. All but 1 of my friends had to stick around over the summer to finish instrument. Those who didn’t stick around over the summer are still working on their ticket. Airplane availability is limited; our selection of aircraft is 1 Aztec [always broke] 1 Arrow, 2 Warriors, 1 Cessna 172, and 2 Piper Tomahawks. With about 80-90 flight students, it’s hard for everyone to get flight time. 3 out of 4 students transfer out before their senior year. I’ve had a previous flight instructor who transferred out of Averett due to the program being stalling his progress and being a waste of his money. I seriously don’t think I can say anything good about this school. I’ll get some of my friends to start a separate post so you can get their views if you’d like.

I hope when you say your transfering from your university to attend a flightsafety you also mean your gonna finish your B.S. degree somewhere. Pack your bags and head for Daytona. Goto Embry-Riddle. Thats what I did.

Thanks for the advice. After I get my ratings I'm going back to school @ VCU in Richmond and am going to finish my bachelor's there. I've wanted to be a professional pilot ever since I was a little kid, but if something happens so I can't fly anymore I want to have a non-aviation fall back plan.
