Thought this would attract some rough ridders. I'm looking for a way out of this trap I'm in. My FB..O STINKS. It started off fine, but now with the fourth contract in two years with my college, things have diminished around here. My Q is, what flight academy (Delta Conn., RAA, Pan Am,ect.) would you recommend? I'm looking for pilots that have gone through one of these programs. You can read their testo's but as usual they post all the good ones on their web site. CHA CHING. Thanks Logan

How can anyone take advice from someone whose avatar is a big flame out of one's a$$?

This is just some internet message board. Who takes what anyone does or says here seriously? If you do, to the point of PMing someome and then, well....nevermind. It's really not worth the effort.

I think everyone gets it. Well, almost everyone.

In other words, WHO THE F*@# CARES?!?

Pan Am will get you done fast but will charge you a pretty penny. Nice aircraft(all piper and relativley new) and great weather all year. I did everything there so if you have any questions I should be able to answer them. PM me. Good Luck!

Well, there is a difference between a little f@rt humor and someone who outright mocks every Christian and Jew's deepest fabric---their faith.

I agree with allATP. I didn't go there personally, but know quite a few at my airline that did. Their program is reasonably priced and will get you a good bit of multi time, which is extremely valuable. All of these 4 year degree programs for pilots that include flight training (like ERAU) are overpriced and overrated. I'd still recommend a 4 year degree, but get it in something other than aviation. Chances are the only time you'll ever need it anyway is if you can't fly, and then what good is an aviation degree going to do you? Just my 2 cents.

I've heard that allATP's has a lot more choices in terms of where to train too.

Isn't AllATP's the quickest route? I'd say pick a school that will get you finished up in a timely fashion, school that you will enjoy and most important has a reasonable cost for the program.

The Indy air pilots care....alot. I dissed their management and a couple of their pilots had a stroke. Plus I had to change my avatar to this cute little coyote deal and add a loveing signiture line just to prove my love for all mankind.

Love and kisses.....

Well Nutslapper, what can I say? I do agree that the coyote creature is very cute.

And Vlad. Who DOESN'T like flatulence related humor? Bust a good 'un.

I need to learn how to take the same approach as you and just agree with everyone around here.... since that appears to be all they want. It surprises me that some of these clowns... I mean fellow Pilots can even go out in public without getting their little feelings hurt.... oops... gotta try and be more nice. What I meant to say is that I must learn to realize that these little whiners here have little feelings, and cry little tears... and I must try hard to keep them from facing the reality of their little world. They keep wetting their little diapers over my comments... so shhhhhh... let the children sleep. I think I can... I think I can...

Well... I'm glad that you have finally seen the light that IndependenceAir IS a fantastic business idea....... and is really going to go places.... like bankruptcy Court... whoops... I did it again... serenity now...

I also think an avatar of flames coming out of ones backside is a fantastic idea....... kinda like the Independence Air business plan, The Clapper, do it yourself Pizza Ovens, and the flying automobile..... its all gonna be hugely successful.

DCA, on the expensive side, but excellent training

I second that. No matter where you decide to go, find your own housing, watch your money, buy your books at Half.com or Amazon.com (not the bookstore or however they try to get you to buy them), find your own CFI (if you don't get along with the CFI they give you), don't take any of their insider politics laying down. Follow that advice, and I guarantee you'll save $10,000 at a 141 school. Find a couple of good students who are just ahead of you and backseat every flight you can (except for the spin training in the 152) so you learn from their mistakes and save the time and money. Are you writing this down? These are gold nuggets I'm spitting out here. Any other questions, PM me.

Exactly what ShyFlyGuy said.

You will get out of it what you put into it. If you surround yourself with people who aren't serious about their training they will drag you down with them. There are plenty of these types at many of the flight schools, but there are also many who are very serious about their training. They relalize it is expensive, so instead of complaining about all the bad, they work extra hard to finish in the minimum amount of time and take that good attitude to the airline and succeed.

Farts aren't funny to everyone. Just ask some of the nasal burn victims at your local hospital. See how much they laugh when they can't smell Mom's apple pie because they walked in on Uncle Lester punching a grumpy. They may even have eye damage. It's like taking 100 onions and mashing them right into your eye sockets....

Thread hijack over....resume real advice.

Funny stuff Angus. But seems true around this site. Some can really answer the question and some can treat it like a kids playground.

Chances are you will need it for your second job to pay the loan off after going to one of these "flight academies". I can't believe these places are still in business.

I see which catagory you fall in to.

Pan Am = BAD ........ allATP = GOOD

If you want to know why, use Mr Searchy and pull up a cup of your favorite beverage. The topics have been beat to death.

How do you know he doesn't love Satan? If he does, then that's his faith, and who are you to question or mock that?

PM between LOGANSUN and SHYFLYGUY about DCA

Just thought I'd share these pearls with everyone contemplating DCA. If nothing else, it might be interesting.

So SupaFly, what did you think of DCA? Did it benefit you? meet your expectations? would you have done it differently? I think your the first person that has emailed saying they actually went through the academy. Appreciate your feed back. logan
Hey, no problem. If I had it to do over, yes, I would do it... but I'd also do a few things differently.

One, get your private first (elsewhere). FBO: $3500 | DCA: $7000.

Two, move in to the cheapest apartment you can and get to know your neighbors. I'm white, and I moved in to a black neighborhood (1505 W. 25th Street apartments: 800 sq ft 2 br. apt for $450/mo). This motivates you to spend as much time as possible at DCA, studying, working, teaching, whatever. Getting to know the neighbors will cover your ass. They had my back, no matter what. I loved the ghetto and I would HIGHLY recomend those folks. I got my truck stolen once, but they drove it a few blocks and parked it. No harm, no foul. They had barbeques and it was AWESOME.

Three, backseat, as I said before. Backseat everything! It raises Va (maneuvering speed) and makes the airplane feel more stable with the added weight.

Four, get your CSEL at the FBO again (2 hours in a C-172 plus the checkride: $150 | DCA: $1500. The way DCA structures it, you go from the 172 to the 172RG for a stage check (which is essentially your CSEL) but then move you to the seminole for your PMEL and CMEL. Backseat the ever loving **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** out of that thing and chairfly it. Go to a plane in MX or on the line and go through your maneuvers until you're sick of it. Then do it some more. That alone could save you a couple grand. It really isn't a big deal. None of it is. You bust a ride, it's no biggie. The only ones that count with the FAA is the CMEL... I can't remember what the other one is, but I think there are only two.

Five, get in good with your CFI who is teaching your CFI. If you buddy up with the other two or three people in your group, you can all pitch in $5 or $10 an hour and do the lessons at your hous and save another couple grand each. (DCA charges each person the going rate, at the time it was $30/hr for the CFI and gave the instructor $7/hr. DCA made $83-113, depending on how many were in the group.) My instructor, Gerry Olmeda and his brother Angel Olmeda (both now at Eagle in San Juan) only let us buy him lunch or dinner. My most fond memories were of my CFI group. It was me (Fancy Pant's little brother), Zubie (now a Capt. at Pinnacle), and Lindsay G. (A Capt. at Comair). We would put together our breifings the night before, have class in the morning, work with Gerry for lunch, each one fly with him for two hours, then go party on Church Street/Orange Ave all night (Friday nights) with each other. Again, fondest memories there.

Six, buy all your books on Half.com or Amazon.com. The bookstore was a bit on the steep side, yet painfully convient. Resist. You will save several hundred to a bit over a thou if you DON'T shop there.
I'm trying to think of anything else, but I can't. Shop at Aldi's. I don't think they had them down there back then, but they do now. A box of cereal is $1, where it's like $4 in the other stores. Have fun, collect all the notes and cheat sheets you can and KEEP THEM! I handed all mine down to my big brother as he went through and I've been kicking my a$$ ever since.

Hope this helps you out. I'm going to post it on the thread you started about DCA for anyone else who might be thinking of any 141 school and for other DCA vets to add to if they have anything.

Shy
