I think that Pilot's in the military today have too much political power to be taken over by a computer. I honest do not think that there will ever be a fully automated squadron out there. I think pilots have too much pull and they would get way to pissed off if airplane bob was flying the plane instead of him sitting right there with the hands on the controls at least.

"...we laugh now, but the joke is on us....

Fighter force will be 1/2 of current size by 2020. Guess what makes up the difference? Yep...its those UAVs...."

In response to this this post, Kit Darby announced today, that the impending pilot shortage of 2020 has cause AirInc/FAPA to ramp up recruitments of 6 year olds who may qualify for advanced placement opportunities at a "major airline" in 2020. Kit announced that due to less pilots leaving the military by 2020 the shortage he predicted in 1987 would finally come to fruition. Mr. Darby was also quoted as saying that only the most qualified may attend the first ever K-5 through 1 job fair in ATL. Suggested minimums would be 500 hrs. potty training, the ability to sleep throught the night, and 1000 hrs. PIC on the Alladin carpet ride at Disney World. "Of course we would encourage any todler who wants to get a leg up on the competition and doesn't meet the minimum requirements to pay the fee and attend because "regionals" may actually be doing preliminary screening for the year 2017 in advance of the shortage. The fee for the Job Fair is $350 for the entire fair and lunch/group sessions but can be reduced to only $200 for the just the job fair but the goldfish and sippy-cup luncheon would not be provided.

AV8OR-

That is some funny shizzle!

My one year old took her first steps yesterday, so she doesn't quite meet the mins. I guess I will have to push her a bit harder so she doesn't miss out.:)

This may be the wrong thread, but...

Can any of you UAV jocks out there please give me some career advice? My kid plays a lot of Gameboy Advance and some games on the desktop but which games did you play to gain the necessary skills to fly combat missions?

I'd really hate to see his current efforts go to waste. I guess he could go the civilian route--maybe he could own a video game store...

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated!TC

As for the Thunderbirds, let's see...
The USAF has a $3B bill to pay, so they're cutting and slashing budgets throughout the USAF. Almost everyone is losing 60%+ of their remaining flying hours for FY05. But not the T-Birds! After all, front line combat units should take a backseat to "recruiting" and "public relations". Oh,.. wait a minute,... the USAF is trying to CUT it's current force size, and is reducing it's recruiting effort. So, exactly why is it that the T-Birds are continuing on without losing a single dollar of their budget?

Contrary to popular belief, flying a UAV isn't completely safe. It's the only airplane out there that you could actually crash into yourself.

Badda Bing!

A good buddy of mine (Former Eagle Driver) did the Predator thing over in Iraq.
He was wondering that when he was "flying" a mission and he accidently spilled his coffee in his lap and burned himself, if he would get a purple heart.

If you didn't see this over at baseops T-38 guys have to list them on there dreamsheet now.

Take it from a T-38 IP...you are incorrect.

Dude, who ARE you, man? You seem to "know" a lot, but have zero experience. Is my diagnosis correct, or should I shut the f*** up?

I pick the second one.

Hey, did you mention you're a T-38 IP?

Thats what they said over at baseops.net. If I'm wrong sorry but I would go and post that since everyone that is in Talons is not happy.

When? Link the thread here or in a PM to me.

I'd be happy to eat my words if I'm incorrect.

Great. YGBSM is here to abuse without offering anything else. Way to go.

I figured that first hand information, aside from "I heard it on baseops.net" would be more helpful...hence the "this is who I am" verbage.

We all appreciate the maturity.

No sweat.

Although actually I was kind of hoping for more gratuitous mentions of a 170 knot approach speed, ejection seats, or CEFS or something.
