US AIRWAYS ANNOUNCES NEW SERVICE TO MILAN, ITALY; LISBON, PORTUGAL; AND STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN FROM PHILADELPHIA
February 9, 2006

Today, US Airways customers have more ways to jet off to Europe thanks to new service from Philadelphia to Milan, Italy (MXP); Lisbon, Portugal (LIS); and Stockholm, Sweden (ARN). With this new service - starting in May and June - US Airways offers 19 daily flights to 16 cities in 10 countries throughout Europe.

“Our international presence is a key element that sets the new US Airways apart from other low-cost carriers, and we are thrilled to grow that presence through the service we’re announcing today,” said US Airways President and CEO Doug Parker. “We are extremely grateful to Philadelphia Mayor John F. Street and Philadelphia Airport Director Charles J. Isdell, who played crucial roles in ensuring our commitment to offer more international destinations to the citizens of Philadelphia and surrounding areas becomes a reality. On behalf of the new US Airways’ 35,000 aviation professionals, we also extend our thanks to the Philadelphia community for continuing to believe in and fly with us.”

Now if they can only keep their union folks from fighting each other...

Fight breaks out with US Airways, AmWest unions
By Dawn Gilbertson, The Arizona Republic
Tensions between unions at the recently merged America West and US Airways turned ugly in Philadelphia on Wednesday, when representatives from two competing unions got into a fight in an airport hotel meeting room.
An official with Tempe-based US Airways confirmed the incident at the Philadelphia Airport Marriott, which involved the police and sent some union representatives to the hospital.
"We're conducting our own investigation, and we're working with the local authorities and cooperating with them as they conduct their investigation," spokeswoman Elise Eberwein said.
She would not speculate on the reasons for the fight, which occurred as representatives of the Transport Workers Union were holding an information session for workers of the old US Airways. The union, which represents America West baggage handlers and related workers, is in a battle with the International Association of Machinists to represent the baggage handlers of the combined airline. The IAM represents baggage handlers from the old US Airways, a significantly larger group of workers.
Pat Rezler, local president of the America West unit of the TWU, was not at the meeting but said the fight broke out when a group of IAM officials barged into the meeting room and said the union representatives should not be there. An altercation ensued, he said.
"There's competition going on, and basically it erupted today," Rezler said. "It's just disappointing that it came to this."
IAM officials in Philadelphia did not respond to a call seeking comment.
The Arizona Republic is owned by Gannett, USA TODAY's parent company.

I thought making a full circle back to the gate would make it a E360 :)

The new flights are going to use the three ex-ATA 757's acquired this month. Should be fun with the new 757's, new E-190's, and no firm agreement as to who gets to do the flying (AWA or US). Should be a fun summer!

They are going to use a 757 to MXP and ARN? I really doubt it. LIS maybe, but not the other two.

You obviously didn't read the fine print. Technical stop in Greenland.

According to the announcment on our employee website, LIS is the only destination that will use 757's. The other two will be 767's.
